He won't go because no one will give him that much.

Didi Hamaan made a point during a pundit role the other night.......didn't directly reference Sterling or Henderson or anyone in particular, more just an observation on some of the problems in English football and the young players establishing themselves in the game, and the one phrase that stuck out was "too much too soon", and the "big clubs need to take a good, hard look at themselves".

I'd imagine the problem with the contract negotiations isn't one of (just) money. It's probably things like - release clause of £Xm, ability to speak to certain clubs if they make an offer over £Xm (e.g. Barca, Real Madrid), Liverpool qualifying for the CL, image rights etc. At this stage, Sterling's probably not directly involved (with the negotiations) - it'll be his agent talking to the club.

        I think he'll stay - 5 year contract of £100k a week and a release clause of £45m??

150k?? GTFO out of here. If Madrid are stupid enough to pay silly money for him lets trade them and take Bale of their hands. Twice the player... Hendo can go to city and be the next Milner. We will be fine

It wouldnt be difficult to replace him if we get a top four spot and the club should not be held to ransom for ridiculous money for a 20 year old. Potentially a top player but he hasnt performed consistenly well enough to be getting parity with Sturridge (if those reports be true)

Pay him £150k pwk and it will blow the clubs finances out of the water as it will have a follow on effect with every other player here and at other clubs asking for more money

Does anyone else think that all this player contract related talk should be in the off field section? Im getting fed up reading about it.

Only time I want to read about a players contract is when they sign it.

He's an exceptional young talent but £150k a week is definitely taking the piss

City, Madrid, Chelsea will pay him that much. City have a problem with a lack of local players. Madrid are paying 80K for that 15 year old Scandinavian starlet.

                      Doesn't mean we should though.

The slightly worrying thing is that these sort of articles are leaking out from both sides of the fence

It is clearly interested parties leaking stuff out in the media to work their own end in negotiations

I am not at all confident that either Henderson or Sterling will sign extensions

I'd be tempted to leave if I was him. Wasn't too long ago he was being booed loudly every match, then he was suddenly the best player in the world, now he's an overrated, big headed, greedy f*cker again because of a few articles about his contract which none of us know the details of.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

If there was no truth to the articles then surely he would have signed the deal put in front of him??

I am not sure where I actually stand on the moralising of whether hes greedy or not

Do I think hes worth £150K per week? Not at the moment no

Do I think the club will get him to sign and extension? Not unless they get close to the level he wants

I personally think both him and Henderson will leave the club most probably this summer, I think some of that Pearce article has a little desperation in it, its the club leaking their position on his and all the other contracts they are negotiating

Most telling for me where these quotes

Liverpool won’t back down over Sterling.

If they did it would open up a can of worms with other players’ representatives banging on the door.

It’s a tricky balancing act for clubs between rewarding success and ensuring motivation remains.

Now I perfectly understand their stance and in isolation I think they are right. Unfortunately as usual there are lots of facets, if we dont strike deals with Sterling and Henderson, replacements will have to be bought and then you will not only have to pay a fee but also negotiate wages for those players you bring in as replacements. Chances are you will be no better off financially than agreeing to what Henderson & Sterling want
