They have spent money though. They havent spent it on the right personnel.

The issue was and continues to be that they failed to appoint the right people to manage this club at the highest level and until they change that our ability to compete with other top clubs will be even more limited

I think people underrate Nasri. Silva was anonymous for a large part of last season, Nasri's stats however are probably boosted by not playing much during the period when City seemed incapable of any form of cohesion (obviously you could argue he brings cohesion).

I agree dww....speaking with a few mates about it and my argument was, whilst I do believe sterling has a higher ceiling and potential to be miles better than Nasir....right now (as in last season) Nasri for me is a lot more effective on the pitch, certainly whenever I've watched city and he's played he's involved in a lot.

That's why I feel sterling has it really cut out for him. Especially if city go and sign de bruyne as well. I think sterling is class little player but the one thing he lacks is that final touch/pass/finish is just not quite there at the moment.

Playing for Liverpool, he could afford to miss chances, give it away, have poor games, because we were prepared to give him the game time and the patience to develop.

At city, under huge pressure now with the eyes of the world on him, one or two poor games, missed chances in big matches, and players like Nasri/silva/de bruyne or wanting to play and arguably all three are more effective in that final decision moment that matters most....he could really struggle.

The one player I think he can replace is navas. Cause despite being ****ing rapid, his final decision making is just as bad.....however, what he does which I'm not sure sterling would be as effective, is to just basically be an out and out winger, hugging the byline and using his pace as an outlet

It will be interesting to see what happens. Personally, deep down, I hope he fails. If that is bitter so be it, but **** him.....I want every single player other than Liverpool players in the league to fail!

I do think it could go one of two ways, he could go on and become a top star, but it's still in the balance for him and could quite easily go the other and he's made it so much harder for himself with his actions towards us, off the field, additional pressure of a huge fee and a much higher expectations. That's why I felt, unbiased, that he was better off here for a few years where he could develop and be given the time.

The way it all went, I'm glad he's gone now and for a huge fee so we can move on....though deep down it is worrying. We struggle to compete, we lose are best players on a regular basis and we struggle to sign class replacements.

That said, I don't believe we will miss him that much. He was more wasteful than prolific, and with ibe coming through and hopefully both origi and firminho being as good as we all hope, then providing we have a goalscorer fit and scoring being that Sturridge or whoever then I think we will be fine

My major major worry is this time next year, because I can see it now....one more good season for coutinho, with another average season for the club, and we will here rumours of coutinhos wife not liking liverpool, wanting to live in a Spanish speaking country where she can settle and then in come barca and off he goes.

Completely agree. Honestly I think he's left a season or two too early and may suffer for it. I think it would have been in everyone's best interests for him to stay here and develop a while longer.

He's basically believed his own hype a little too much and we will see if it backfires or if he can back it up. He'll be under a lot of pressure now anyway as a £50m player.

Yknow PTP, that's probably the first post of yours I've read every single word of & thought that you're in full control of your faculties (tbf I usually skim most of them to get the gist cos it's like reading the ramblings of an overexcited child). Well done, and I agree. :goldstar:

Also agree with Pobs, who despite his blatant fakery is often coherent & well balanced.

A good day all round lads, keep it up.

To keep your best players you either need to be winning things, or pay them more. Sometimes both (e.g. challenging each year didn't keep Van Persie, Nasri etc. at Arsenal). Since we don't seem to want to pay big wages these days we desperately need to break into the top four on a consistent basis or we'll become a stepping stone club for decent players.

Am I right in thinking he will be the most expensive English player ever and 2nd most expensive British player ever (after Bale)? That's alot of pressure on the shoulders of a 20 year old.
