Didn't do too much at all apart from running into blind alleys - fast
Lacked experience (no surprise) as a result and his movement & decision making were poor
Made you realise for those clamouring for him to be in the first team don't have a clue - the potential is there but IMHO he is nowhere near ready
Don't think thats such a fair assessment. He was playing in a team where nobody seemed to know their role. You can't say anybody had a decent game and everybodies movement and decision making were poor. Apart from the goal Downing was every bit as poor as Sterling so to say he is nowhere near ready is a bit of an overstatement.
I think he's a useful addition to the squad - more of an occasional option than a first choice. All players start raw. Whilst 'traditional winger' isn't the most important thing to have even Barcelona have benefited from having Tello and Cuenca as options and throwing a wide player on has occasionally been a useful trick for the Spanish national side.

I'm not convinced that there have been any 'traditional wingers' since people played the WM formation but Tello is pretty much in the mould of what is now though of as one from what I have seen. He's direct and starts his runs wide, not joining the play in the middle of the park.

he looks very quick in his own age group and in the reserves but in actual fact against fully grown men he didnt look all that fast last night against gomel. We need to be very careful about managing him because his body hasnt fully developed yet but in first team games he's probably running at maximum intensity.
Thats when injuries can occur by young players really over exerting themselves when their bodies arent ready for it. In the reserves he's probably going at 75 - 80% of what he can do but thats not enough at first team level.
20 appearances should be more than enough for him to continue his development.
