With young players we have to be patient because there not the finished article and they will be inconsistent. If he sorts his life off the pitch, he could be a revelation on it.

He completely outshone Townsend and anything else spurs had.
this is a great person to compare him and someone i've used in my many defences of Sterling - not so much here, but certainly in the pub or at the game when listenting to dickheads writing him off...

half those clowns.....rave about 'that townsend lad at spurs' -

from what i've seen of townsend - he's quick flashy has potential, but is still 22, doesn't start every week (must be a reason?) and he's just had a few good performances, scored a couple great strikes, but at 22 has only played about half the games Sterling has...

these people so quick to right off sterling/big up townsend, despite the fact townsend is 3 years older, and has actually done less than Sterling

I think it is a general problem with the way people watch commentate on football in this country. There is no patience with young players development and they are often hyped for relatively little.

It hasn't helped that the England team have not brought through any new players in recent years and now a total change is needed. Consequently whoever last got a chance is built up as the saviour of English football (currently Barkley and Townsend).

In general though I think people should take the lesson from Townsend that not all players are ready or not at 19/20/21. Some players need more time and given it will develop into capable PL first teamers.

That's what I'm most impressed with.

His defensive pressing and ability to shield the ball and get more physical with the defenders improved tremendously.

Probably one of his best games ever and he can get so much better.

It wasn't just his destruction of naughton that was so impressive but the way he tracked back and won possession on numerous times to set up another attack, getting better game by game and looks like the player we've been hoping to see develop since he broke into the line up last season

Hope this continues, he's growing in confidence and earning his place in the side. He looks happy in his game too. Let's hope it mirrors his private life

Great to see him playing well. Still raw but game time is vital for him.. if it's with us or someone else. Last few performances have been excellent

Starting to look like the player that burst onto the scene last season after being in a huge slump. Still, I'd drop him to the bench the moment Sturridge is fit again.

Interesting you said that as I was thinking about how he may be dropped when Sturridge is fit to come back.

If Sterling could repeat the same or similar type of performances over next 4,5 games regardless of Sturridge skills I'm not so sure it would be just to do so.

The same argument can be made about Allen when Stevie is back.

Be nice to have some options.

His range of passing against Spurs was really nice and something I didn't think he has about him.

Hopefully we can pick Sturridge/Gerrard/Sterling etc based on the needs of the team tactically rather that because we are making up the numbers.

                        Suarez is clearly undroppable!

To be fair, he's had 1 good game. Unless he carries on playing like that game in game out, Sturridge will rightly walk back into the side

Fair enough, but he also showed improvements between games which might indicate him being rusty and hesitant against Hull but getting some match fitness now.
                            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

It depends if we continue with 433 or if he decides to go 2 up top again. If we continue putting in good performances playing 433 and Suarez keeps this form up playing centrally on his own, it will be hard for Sturridge to get back into the team.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
