Realistically how long do you reckon we will be able to keep Sterling? If he continues to progress as he has done, Madrid & Barca are bound to come knocking. I think we not only need to be challenging at the top we actually need to be winning titles to keep him. If we are the dominant force like Utd were, we obviously stand a much better chance of retaining him, if we are merely champions league qualifiers year in I don't think its enough.
My hunch is we will get this season and possibly one more from him. Depressing really. The fact he left London at 15 shows his ambition. Its not as ft he's homegrown ala Gerrard. That pull to stay won't be there.
Right that's morbid enough, lets hope he is unplayable this year and propels us to the title!

Pretty sure he'll become the outstanding player in the league, probably this season but definitely next season, so we really need to be winning stuff. Then it'll come down to whether he's ever harboured an ambition to play abroad. If he has then the call of RM or Barca will be too strong IMO. Still I'm not worrying, him leaving will be years off if ever.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Hard to say really how long he'll be here as he's still at the beginning of his career (120k aside obviously). But ultimately the best teams want the best players, so if he continues to improve and we're not doing the business, then who knows.
Could stagnate...could develop into one of the top players in the PL....could find himself turning out for Hull ??
Probably more of a chance of him ending up at Chelsea or City than moving abroad if it did happen, as English players are not brave enough to move abroad to further their careers, as Ashley Cole said. That's why he set out to be the exception that proves the rule and show the way forward for English players...................at the end of his career, that some argue ended a season ago.

I think Brendan will be a factor in him staying as well, Brendan has given him chances and helped him to become the player he is. Not many managers would have put him in behind the striker so young.
I think we should pay him according to his worth to the team. Just like any other.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I think that people are going over the top here, the source is the mirror FFS.
While I have no doubt that the play and his agent would want a pay rise that's hardly news I suspect the 4x thing is just plucked out of the air.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
