That's absolutely true. But it's also true for the vast majority of players to some extent. Doesn't mean he's likely to end up being like Alan Shearer. Of course he might, and I agree he should get our support.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostHe's 22 FFS. How do you know how good he can/will be?
Shearer was far from the finished article at 22 as well, but he didnt do too badly.
I just think buying him was a worrying mistake by Comolli and the manager.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

That was notably bad, yes. The odd one you can forgive, every player drops their concentration sometimes. We'll see.Originally posted by Baracus View PostTaking the Spurs game as an example. In the 1st half, he got passed the ball, controlled it, turned. Touched it again, with such a piss poor touch that the ball moved 3 yards away from him into no-mans land with a spurs player coming in fast. To save face he slides towards the ball into the incoming Spurs player and draws a foul.Less than 5 seconds. Watch.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Great miss, along with an absolute **** overhead earlier in the game (I expect more from the undisputed king of overheads)......(less said about the finish for his goal
).........can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the coming weeks.
Perhaps a missed peno ?, perhaps a red card ?.......stay tuned to find out."I will make the boys feel your support"

I saw and in any case, i dont need to watch to know that the suggestion that Carroll (or any PL player) 'lacks the ability to carry the ball or keep the ball for longer than 5 seconds' is nonsense.Originally posted by Baracus View PostTaking the Spurs game as an example. You're probably vastly exaggerating for effect. But in any case, your observation is plainly untrue.

That's primarily to do with the fee, if we're honest, isnt it?Originally posted by Kenneth View PostThat's absolutely true. But it's also true for the vast majority of players to some extent. And as i've been saying, he had no say about the fee, so i wish people would stop blaming him and using it as a stick to beat him with - which is clearly what's happening, because if he'd cost £8m, he wouldnt be getting half the criticism he has been getting.

Of course it's to do with the fee. And I'm not knocking him, I'm critical of the fact that the replacement for Torres, a striker who is the clubs record buy by a mile, isn't performing and probably never will perform at the level that a player in such a role should. That is, primarily, a criticism of the decision to buy him, not a personal comment on the player.
I would indeed expect a lot less from a striker who cost 8m. Much lower fee, much smaller risk and we'd probably have bought better quality elsewhere with the difference.
I think it's the situation (as covered above) rather than the man that people are unhappy with.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
