**** a little edit - when i say Liverpool legends, how can i explain this, i am not trying to say that being a liverpool legened is the pinnacle of a career - but there are only a handful of what you would class as 'great' football clubs.....that around the world, for the last 100 years and the next 100 years, will still be ****ing great clubs - the likes of

    Us
Mancs (hate to say it but it's true)
    Ac Milan
    Real Madrid
    Barca
    Bayern

Maybe a few others like Inter, Juve, even for this arguements Celtic and Rangers.....

    .
IF they didnt win the league for the next 25 years would they still have a big fan base? I dont think they will, a majority of they're fans have just jumped on the bandwagon post 1993.

Growing up in the 80's there were hardly any manc fans around.

Disagree. I knew loads of kids who were Manc fans in the 80s, but they have always been a big club with history. Chavs haven't.

yeah but there is no doubting that regardless of recent history....the mancs still have a past with the likes of the busby babes, george best, dennis law, league titles and european cups etc...

We haven't won a league title for 20 odd years and could easily go another 10 years without one, yet we're still one of the biggest clubs in the world
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

In the time since Torres last scored Dirk Kuyt has scored 11 goals for club and country. Who would have thought that a year or so back.
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

That list you made of great clubs. Very euro-centric. What about Boca, River Plate, Corinthians and Santos?

                Ajax - legendary club.

To be fair on match days they have always had good support, I think I read somewhere that through the 80's they had the highest attendences in the football league almost every season - because they had a bigger ground than us.

In terms of people who don't go to the matches or never have, the arrival of Sky brought football to a wider audience, their success coinciding with it will probably have brought them more additional fans that alot of other clubs. Whether these fans are glory hunters or people who will stick with them only time will tell. I think there will be fans who lose interest when the club starts doing badly (as this is the case with many clubs) so yes they will lose some of the fair weather fans but what fraction they make up is difficult to know.

Torres is 15/2 to score in his next match. For those unfamiliar with betting terminology it means that for every £10 you spend you lose £10

On the topic of betting, he's 5/2 not to score again this season.

Five games to play, he's on the bench these days, anyone fancy it ?

I had an unbelievably strange dream last night.
I was at Stamford bridge watching a Chelsea match when Cheryl Cole came up and sat on my knee.
Then over the loud speaker a voice said, "The supporter in seat WL7A row 4 seat 194 has won £1,000,000.
I thought, **** me can this get any stranger..?

                                Then Torres scored.
