Gomez is a centre back, certainly played games there at Charlton.

It should be Gomez. Once we get Clyne back we'll have enough players to cover the flanks, and he's a natural CB. Milner, Can, Grujic etc., don't belong there.

As for reserves, Lloyd Jones has left permanetly and Jordan Williams on loan. Conor Masterson is highly rated, but probably nowhere near ready, or Corey Whelan maybe...

Keeping Sakho wouldn't have been such a bad thing.

grujic is probably the best option of a non CB who could fit in at a push.
a big athletic lad who can tackle. im not sure he has the tactical awareness but is only young and it might make sense to give him some substitute minutes and training time as a makeshift CB so he could be an option for the future.

maybe try him in goal too...
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Matip, Lovren, Klavan, Gomez.....would have to be some injury crisis to have 3 of these out.

Nah, I'd be staggered if we tried him there, he has almost zero attributes to make a go of it. He's not tall, he's not super quick, he's not a great tackler. What worked for Mascherano at Barca is his speed, reading of the game and amazing tackling ability - and very few Spanish teams play a route one style.

He's only an inch shorter than Lucas. His tackling can't be that bad if he has been our first choice left back for a while. He won't stray into the wrong position through lack of concentration. His distribution would be ok. I hope we don't have to play him there but I don't think he'd let anyone down if we needed him to plug a gap.

Lucas is good in the air despite his height, Milner isn't. I can't envisage any scenario when playing Milner at CB works.

Check out his jumping ability for the third goal at Watford. His legs have gone in that regard and Carragher said similar and that's when he knew he wasn't good enough.

For me, that was the best all-round performance this season of any player. He is such an intelligent, strong and attacking player. We need to find more opportunities to get him onto the pitch, his movement off the ball unlocks defences. Utterly brilliant last night, an unbelievable player, hope he can hold down a starting place this season.

He was brilliant and close to being my MOTM. He showed leadership, pressing and intelligence but (and it's a big one), Maribor were dreadful and that #4 was probably the worst single performance I've seen against us. So, it's hard to judge just how good Milner was. It will be tough for him with Lallana back also.

Wouldn't go quite so overboard but it was a fine performance. He gives us so much game intelligence when he's on the pitch. I think that's why Klopp played him left-back last season, to find somewhere to play him as well as sorting out our Moreno issue. Would be good to see him get more game time this year, but I can't honestly see where he gets in. Maybe for Wijnaldum away from home?

I definitely think he should keep his place on Sunday. For Gini. Henderson back in, Can and Milner ahead of him.
