im sure i have seen ibe playing on the left when he was at derby.
this would be his starting position, but would often carry the ball down the line or come inside as he needed to. i like the way he varies his runs, defenders always left guessing.

i would like to see him on the left for us. i reckon he will offer much more than moreno, who has looked a little wasteful. markovic on the right, if fit.

I can see why it's appealing to stick with what works and change nothing, and I wouldn't want a radical departure from it, but we do have to be pragmatic about things.

We're still in three competitions and we should consider rotation as something that might be beneficial. There's almost never a risk free time to do these things. If we are too averse to taking well planned calculated risks, we let in the possibility that injury will force change on us in ways where we will be poorly placed to mitigate the risks of throwing a different player in.

Without seeing the players in training it's difficult to measure the risks of trying any one of them in any particular role, but given the result of the decision this time (a promising performance from Ibe) and previously (performances of Sakho, Can and Markovic) I just can't see why I'd favour that sort of 'tinkering' being supplanted by a highly conservative approach.

Markovic has been good in that position, not just from an attacking point of view, but defensively too. Ibe gives us another option. Its a nice dilemma for Rodgers to have.

I just think at the moment, we're in a position where we need to stay in touching distance with 4th. It's not the time to be giving debuts (nearly) to young kids and should stick with the tried and tested until that needs tinkering.

It's great that Brendan gives the kids an opportunity, but on this occasion, I personally believe the inclusion of Ibe left us a bit foreign to what we're normally used to. You could see Gerrard having a few words with him too about positioning, runs etc...
