The no embaressment thing seems to have been taken a little out of context.

He said something along the lines of 'There is no embarrassment here as they have done similar to better teams than us'

While its clearly an embarrassing result, I think he was trying to put it into context. Celtic are League 1 compared to Barca. So its hardly a shock.
    *Except Michael, who died.

Yeah that was what he said. I'm not slamming him, I just watched the interview and it gave of the wrong vibe. The entire trip, 'beautiful man' etc just gives the impression that he was saying they were happy just to be there.

I would personally prefer a manager to sound slightly more confrontational. It's not Brendan's style, and ultimately until he stops trying to be everyone's friend I think it holds him back.

You should never be happy after a Seven nil, no matter who you play. Brendan is a fascinating personality, I think he puts up a massive front at times with the media (at least I hope he does, otherwise he is a strange chap) and it would be interesting if he were to relax a bit and stop waxing lyrical.

Actually Scott Brown pitches it perfectly. It would be great to get Brendan talking along these lines.

It's the second half that we're really disappointed with," said Brown.

"To lose five goals in 45 minutes is unacceptable. Everyone is disappointed in that changing room."

He added: "It's a heavy defeat. We didn't do well enough on the ball. When we got it, we kept giving it away.

"They're entitled to score goals, they're a great team, but we should do better than that.

"It's 7-0. I'm not going to come away from here laughing and joking, am I? It's hard to take, but they are a great team.

"Now we need to bounce back. We've got Man City in the next game and we need to try and get something at Celtic Park.

"We know at Celtic Park, with our fans, anything can happen."

I think he's been reading too many positive marketing/pr books and attending too many bloody courses on how to present himself in interviews; sometimes from the heart works best and being brutally honest on things.

Not everything needs to be spun to be a positive.

That being said I hope he does well at Celtic, seems a nice enough guy and a perfect place to rebuild himself.

Did he tear into our kids and hang a few of them out to dry after a poor cup defeat before?

IIRC, it was quite harsh on them too.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

To me that quote makes horrible reading. I don't care if they're so good they've embarrassed quite a few decent teams, the attitude should be they shouldn't ever do so TO US. It's not just about how good Barca are, it's about how teams perceive that and capitulate after going a couple down.

No matter what the teams, anyone on the receiving end of that score should always find it utterly embarrassing. To say otherwise smacks of speaking out of a desire to protect your own image. It's not Hodgsonesque, but it's not right.

Possibly a career best result for Brendan last night. He absolutely had Celtic go after City in a way that almost got them the win. It was certainly by far Brendan's best performance in Europe. As I've mentioned I think the move to Celtic will prove to be a shrewd one for his career.
