You're forgetting we were winning before Suarez came back. Brendan is rightly criticized for our leaky defense which, IMO, cost us the title that season. But by the same token, he's also the same manager who set Gerrard up as the deep-lying playmaker who enjoyed one of his best seasons, played Coutinho in the middle of the park and Sterling as a #10 to great effect, and put two strikers upfront in a league which favored one.

can a player not improve and grow naturally as he settles and gets used to a league? If Rodgers was such a massive influence on him and inspirational coach, how come he was instigating his move out from 12-13 season?Originally posted by dww View PostSuarez record in the PL:
Before Rodgers:
44 games, 15 goals
With Rodgers:
66 games, 54 goals
I don't understand how anyone can defend Rodgers when all the evidence is there to suggest otherwise.

The complexity of the story is what makes that season fascinating to me. Trying to reduce it down to 'Suarez was brill' seems reductive and also more importantly boring.Originally posted by I, Ravel Morrison View PostYou're forgetting we were winning before Suarez came back. Elements of that season mirrored both Gerrard and Rodgers personalities much more than they did that of Suarez. Which is why I will always feel that they were a big part of it."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

No one is saying he is a managerial great. Just that he deserves some credit for doing some things well.Originally posted by Maxiedge View Postcan a player not improve and grow naturally as he settles and gets used to a league? It is only 'all the evidence' when you systematically ignore any evidence pointing the other way. It was the same with Rafa - many people seemed to pick a side and then appeared incapable of holding anything that resembled a nuanced position."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

The evidence suggests that Rodgers improved us from where we were post Hodgson. Improved Suarez to the extent that he became arguably the best striker in the world.Originally posted by Maxiedge View Postcan a player not improve and grow naturally as he settles and gets used to a league? Yeah, it's fascinating to see. I think a lot of judgement is bogged down by personal opinion of the man. Same with Rafa as you said.Originally posted by dww View PostThe complexity of the story is what makes that season fascinating to me. If he had been available for the majority of games (rather than serving lengthy bans) under Rodgers guidance it would have been PL winners Liverpool fc [Big gap] the rest of the teamsOriginally posted by dww View PostSuarez record in the PL:

Speaks double dutch tooOriginally posted by Buzzo View PostI can see Rodgers getting a gig somewhere in Spain, he is fluent isn't he? If Sociedad were prepared to gamble on Moyes, the Brendan would be a reasonable option for a Spanish team.
I'd imagine another job in the EPL, say, Newcastle would leave him open for too much scrutiny.Substance > Style

I do wish him all the best and hope he does eventually figure out how to set up a defence.
