You're forgetting we were winning before Suarez came back. Brendan is rightly criticized for our leaky defense which, IMO, cost us the title that season. But by the same token, he's also the same manager who set Gerrard up as the deep-lying playmaker who enjoyed one of his best seasons, played Coutinho in the middle of the park and Sterling as a #10 to great effect, and put two strikers upfront in a league which favored one.

can a player not improve and grow naturally as he settles and gets used to a league? If Rodgers was such a massive influence on him and inspirational coach, how come he was instigating his move out from 12-13 season?

I don't understand how anyone can defend Rodgers when all the evidence is there to suggest otherwise.

The complexity of the story is what makes that season fascinating to me. Trying to reduce it down to 'Suarez was brill' seems reductive and also more importantly boring.

Elements of that season mirrored both Gerrard and Rodgers personalities much more than they did that of Suarez. Which is why I will always feel that they were a big part of it.

No one is saying he is a managerial great. Just that he deserves some credit for doing some things well.

It is only 'all the evidence' when you systematically ignore any evidence pointing the other way. It was the same with Rafa - many people seemed to pick a side and then appeared incapable of holding anything that resembled a nuanced position.

The evidence suggests that Rodgers improved us from where we were post Hodgson. Improved Suarez to the extent that he became arguably the best striker in the world.
              Are we winning?

He gets criticised for this season and other ****ty times and credit for the boss season, it's hardly that radical!

Yeah, it's fascinating to see. I think a lot of judgement is bogged down by personal opinion of the man. Same with Rafa as you said.

No one who's 'standing up' for Brendan is suggesting he's a great manager. He isn't. Just a promising one who gave us glimpses of his potential but ultimately fell short of the mantle of Liverpool Manager.

If he had been available for the majority of games (rather than serving lengthy bans) under Rodgers guidance it would have been PL winners Liverpool fc [Big gap] the rest of the teams

Ok, I'm done. I've said what I've had to say on the matter and might have even crossed the line of respect. I guess my feelings are known now so I'm just going to leave it there.

I do wish him all the best and hope he does eventually figure out how to set up a defence.

I'd imagine another job in the EPL, say, Newcastle would leave him open for too much scrutiny.

With a new manager coming in this week at some point and the Liverpool link to Rodgers fading.

Probably a good time to move the thread.

All future Rodgers Conversations will also be moved here (or at least we will attempt that)
