              Em............you guys know it's a pisstake ?

At least you'd hope it is, and that it's not some Liverpool fan tugging the stomach out of himself as he pulls out serious man-love for Brendan.

Gary Lineker has been singing the praises of Brendan Rodgers after Liverpool beat Swansea 4-3 at Anfield this afternoon.

It was when watching the highlights of the game between West Bromwich Albion and Fulham on Match of the Day that it hit me - what is happening to the classic British manager?

The two are near the foot of the table - and played out an uninspiring game of football which ended 1-1 and I couldn’t help but think - what do Pepe Mel and Felix Magath bring that a young British gaffer doesn’t?

I am not sure, and this is not a xenophobic attack, it is just that throughout the years British managers have always been revered as some of the best.

Shankly, Clough, Robson, Ferguson and of course many more.

But today only 11 of the Premier League bosses are British - the most recent arrival Gary Monk after the sacking of Dane Michael Laudrup.

But at least there are some great Brits in the league still flying the flag - one of which is painfully in charge of my teams bitter rivals Liverpool.

But it would take the most ardent and closed minded of Everton fans not to appreciate the football Liverpool are playing at the moment - and today Brendan Rodgers once again got a fantastic result in a 4-3 win against his former club Swansea.

Liverpool are now looking a shoe-in for the top-four while the title race should not be considered over just yet for the side.

Did we mention that they became the Premier League’s top scorers this season as well today?

They look sensational - and the manager deserves all the credit he will get.

Today it came from former Tottenham striker and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker - who had these glowing words for the Liverpool gaffer:

Brendan Rodgers is living proof that British coaches can be intuitive, creative, inspiring and thoughtful.

Just look at the improvement in the games of Sturridge and Henderson. Coincidental? I don't think so. Coaching at its finest.
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Lineker is spot on. The development of Sturridge, Hendo, Coutinho and even Suarez to an extent. Rodgers deserves some credit. Also the way he is getting the team to pass and attack, its something not usually associated with British coaches

He deserves a great deal of credit for the work he has done with those players and also Flannagan and Sterling. He and the staff looking after the attacking side of things are clearly excellent.

I'm not completely sure about his, or his staff's, ability to get a defensive system together that players are comfortable in. I think we need someone to come in and advise in a similar way to Fergusson using McLaren as his assistant when reshaping Uniteds defence.

Yes. Sterling and Flannagan too. Sterling's pass yesterday was simply brilliant

You are right on the defence. Regardless of what he says, i still think there is a system/tactical issue not just individual errors. Does he want to concentrate more on the defensive aspect though??

                          Comment

I tend to feel that if you have a high rate of individual errors but decent players then the combinations are poor or the tasks they are asked to do are likely to make them uncomfortable. A lot of the errors seem to come at least in part for covering for a lack of communication or trust in other players. Maybe it is just a lack of confidence in the individual players.

There may be something in your implication that Rodgers doesn't give the attention to defence as he has done wonders for attacking and midfield players self belief. Which is to an extent why I think bringing someone else in might be the answer.
