3 months later we ourselves bought Sturridge for £1m more than we paid for Borini

Now I am not saying all of these are better players than Borini, but these are the type of deals he has to be compared against

I dont think Borini was in anyway shape or form value for money and that money certainly could have been spent better

I havent bothered searching for European deals I am sure other deals around Europe would compare more than favourably with £11m for Borini
Also we are all keyboard warriors. Finding out Alternatives to Borini is not our full time job.

I cannot believe that a scout who watches hundreds of games a year, has access to countless hours of videotapes, much more clearer idea of the football skills and development cannot find a better player than Borini for 11 million.

As you said, one or two mistakes is OK, but our footballing staff need to start making sure that these mistakes are getting rarer and rarer.

To be fair when we got Borini he had just turned 21 and was on the back of some good performances for both Swansea and Roma.

He got 10 goals from 26 games in Serie A the season before he joined us and got 6 goals from 12 games when out on loan to Swansea the season before that, so he was highly rated at the time.

So I can see why our guys thought he might kick on if we bought him. With the advantage of hindsight we can say he was not a good buy for the money, but based on how he was playing before we bought him it is not hard to see why we took the risk of paying what we did.

Sunderland offered us £14m for him last summer. QPR were also willing to give us our money back. That would tend to indicate that we didn't dramatically overpay (not our fault he simply wouldn't leave), we just over estimated his ability to kick on at Anfield.

I still think we could get around £7-£8m for Borini this summer, which really wouldn't even put it on the first page of great LFC transfer disasters. We lost more on Carroll than we would giving Borini away on a free. Same with the likes of Downing, Keane, Aquilani... hell we lost as much on Diouf a decade ago.

i think the offers we got for borini says more about the desperation of sunderland and qpr than borinis real worth.

Jordan Henderson becoming a "real leader" for Liverpool, insists boss Brendan Rodgers

The England midfielder scored again in the win over Burnley at Anfield and Rodgers believes he is moulding into the perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard

Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for midfielder Jordan Henderson after Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Burnley on Wednesday night.

The England man netted his second stunning strike in as many games as the Reds continued their impressive run of form in the Premier League, prompting his manager to praise his growth as a player and a leader.

"I think Jordan is improving all the time," said Rodgers. "As he matures even more tactically, he'll become even better. He's always had athleticism and tactically he's improving all the time.

"Technically, you see his qualities. His passing is improving. And he's becoming one of the real leaders of this young team. It was a wonderful performance by him and the team in general."

Rodgers also paid tribute to Emre Can, another player who impressed against the Clarets.

"I think you give him another couple of years and he could play in any team in world football - that's how highly I rate him," the Reds boss continued.

"He plays at the back, is strong, aggressive and fast, and he serves the ball well. You move him into midfield, whether it's central or wide, you can see his football intelligence.

"He breaks through lines with his power and pace, and he has got great composure. He is settling into the game in this country very well. You can see the response by the crowd, they love him.

"He does the dirty work as well, he doesn't just play and look nice; he presses the ball really well, he is aggressive. I really think that he'll develop into a real world-class player."

Yeah, it can drive you crazy when you don't find it I suspect him doing this on purpose.

Yup, it appears from that Rodgers over a period of time improves and has steadily looked to add more points per game than Rafa.

                            Cheers for posting

For the most part I always thought that Rafas approach wouldn't win us the league and I think that graph shows that while less consistent, Rodgers is on the up curve and if he can add consistency then I think his style of football is/could be much more conducive to league success.

The other graph shows just how ****ing consistent Rafa was in the last 80 or so games and also how Rodgers' performance in Europe and domestic cups (first two seasons) has effected his overall win %

I think Rodgers is helped by the fact that we are clearly a club pulling together now. I think the comparisons can become a bit unhealthy as the club has gone through a lot of changes in circumstance during both managers reigns.

The big thing to take away (I think) is that Rodgers has managed to get us winning points despite a major departure and we are in a strong position to grow. He deserve a great deal of credit for that.
