While there might be some truth in it and FSG might sanction a contract for Xabi they'd baulk at the transfer fee you mention.Originally posted by Arn View PostI believe myself that Xabi have told a few players that he want to join us in the summer and that Rodgers want to sign him but FSG is refusing to sign him. That is what all the we need experienced players is all about.
Rodgers and a few players using the media to put pressure on FSG to make the deal happen? Would never happen, would it.............
Real will most probably sell him in the summer because he is refusing to sign a new contract.
Could we get him for £10m-£15m? Most probably yes.
IF he was available on a free then I think FSG could be convinced that it would be a worthwhile exception to their buying youth policy.
It ain't going to happen though.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Arn you are making an awful lot of logic jumps there. Really. First you have no way to know Alonso has told anyone anything, or that Rodgers wants him, and certainly there's no way to know FSG might or might not have "refused" anything, even if there was anything to refuse. In Feb. 5 months before we can next sign anyone.
Aimless speculation like that does nobody any favours and only ends with people convincing themselves to expect things that have no basis in reality.
Besides, spending £10m-£15m for a 32 yr old, and equivalent wages, would be really odd. I don't care how good Xabi was, has been, or how long people speculate he would be good for based on the way he plays. I cannot see how building a team around a Gerrard - Xabi - Lucas midfield will help us a year or two into the future (or really work that well). We have one ageing star in Gerrard, I don't want another, certainly not for that sort of money.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

i wouldnt be surprised if Arn was spot fockin on to be honest........
the fact that:
1. Stevie G has come out recently and blew Xabi's trumpet
2. Xabi's ol' doll tweeted a pic of their two kids with Alonso and Gerrard kits
3. B-Rodge has come out and went on about needing "experience" to add to his young players (although that could also mean Ashley fockin Williams!!!
4. Xabi comes out with his "i'm still a liverpool fan" malarkey.....
5. He won't extend his contract.......
2 + 2 = 4 for Henderson so Xabi can have his shirt back!!!

Be realistic, why would Alonso come back?
He seems to have a genuine affiliation for the club but he's currently playing for the Spanish champions who have a decent shot of European glory and since he went back home he became a regular for Spain - that wasn't happening while he was with us.
As much as I love the guy, coming to us would be a backwards step.

One step back... and another... and another.Originally posted by Tee View PostOne step back, two step forwards?

(WHY DOES HE STILL HAVE A CHRISTMAS HAT ON??)
Our problems wouldn't be fixed by Xabi coming back, if anything it further complicates matters because it pushes Gerrard further forward again. His new deeper position suits him a lot.

To be fair, Rodgers would have to be some kind of ****tard to not want Xabi in ANY of his squads.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostArn you are making an awful lot of logic jumps there. Really. Plenty of others have retired around their early Thirties. Cantona, Petit, Platini, Keegan, Deschamps, Klinsmann, Kluivert, Rijkaard but to name a few.Originally posted by EwarWoo View PostWhy one warth would he retire at 32?

It's that simple.
.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
