The best players don't sign for a manager like Rodgers.

Rodgers may or may not be good enough in a few years time but the star players don't want to risk playing for a manager that may not be good enough.

The Sahin saga probably isn't exactly a big plus.

How many of the, say, top 30 players in the world would we have a chance to sign?

I think the answer is not a single one.

Look at the best players out there. How many of them play for a manager like Rodgers?

It isn't Rodgers fault. In a few years time if he is a success then the star players would sign for him.

It is just the way it is.

Why do you think the best clubs almost all the time sign top class managers?

They need a big name to be able to sign the best players. If Bayern would have signed someone like Rodgers then they would get it very difficult to get the best players signing for them. Now when they signed up Pep then have a chance to sign almost whatever player they want.

If United replaced DBF with Moyes then star player after star player would turn them down IMO.

United would still be a top class club but not having a big name as manager would make it more difficult to sign the best players.

They don't want to gamble. They want almost guaranteed success.

Yup Villanoa and Guardiola in particular were massive names in football management, Barca took a risk and look how it turned out for them it's no guarantee a big name manager will work but players will come based on the project and the vision of what is trying to be created not all but some and having a big name manager would only be a small part of why they went to a particular club, players will go to PSG much like City for ££££££££££

            Project Casemore

To be fair, Barca wasn't far of a title challenge at the time of Pep joining, and still pretty much took part in the CL every year.

I can see where Arn is coming from to an extent, but you know, Roy persuaded Suarez to come so the possibilities are endless.

I think it's more down to the player than the manager in the long run, it's easy to see who is money motivated.

Pep was one of the best players in the world. That of course helps a lot.

Villanova was recommended by Pep and the players wanted him.

Look at Laudrup. He isn't a top class manager yet probably not better than Rodgers but he was one of the best players in the world and respected all over the world, that means that it is much easier for him to get the players signing for him.

Swansea will continue to make good deals in the transfer market because of Laudrup. If Laudrup would for some reason leave Swansea in the summer then Michu would most probably leave only weeks later.

Whatever we think about Roy he was a very respected manager when Suarez signed for us. Roy is a much bigger name than Rodgers. That may change in a few years time, who knows?

                  Oh for Pete's sake

Being a "big name" is a ridiculous argument to judge a manager on. What defines a "big name"? I guess Mourinho and Villas Boas were big names when they came to England, each having only managed for a short period in Portugal (if successfully)?

I don't buy at all that players are only going to come to a club like Liverpool because of the apparent name status of our manager. And I definitely don't buy the idea that, outside European competition, with the same wages structure etc, us randomly bringing in Ancelotti would suddenly make a huge difference to the calibre of players we could, or would even try to recruit. It is such a simplistic view of how the world works.

Not having a go at anyone, but I'm quite sick of the snobbery some of our fans have about Rodgers and his background. Supposed experience and reputation are **** all guarantee of success.

And anyway, if that sort of thing did make such a big difference to some players, **** them too. We want players who are proud to play for the red shirt, who want to get involved with an exciting project to build something sustainable and successful, not fly-by-night mercenaries only interested in their reputations and who would be off as soon as a better offer comes along

Rubbish mate. The top players won't come because we are not a champions league team at the moment, nothing to do with the manager. Players will choose money and a CL club where they have a chance to win big trophies

Most players would actually enjoy playing under the style of BR

I definitely agree with that. I still think that until that slightly negative undercurrent that still seems to pervade the club lifts things are going to toddle along as they have done for the last few years. I still cant put my finger on what it actually is (aside fron not being competitive at the too level), but there is certainly something there.

Correct. Most Bayern fans are not impressed with him and in the handful of Bayern games I've watched this season, he has been annonymous. I can see Pep using him as a centre back
