I agree with Barnes. How many white managers fail repeatedly and walk into other jobs? ****ing tons. Loads of white managers consistently fail to deliver and are given more chances. Loads. Barnes has been written off after two very short stints. Why?

He was only a player there wasnt he?Originally posted by BillobShaisley View PostBarnes was my favourite player growing up. But his management opportunities for an untested new coach can hardly be complained about. He was given chances at Newcastle and Celtic and was utterly awfull, it's not skin colour holding you back Johnny.
When you look at Ince working in the lower leagues and the routes to premiership management for the handfull of other black coaches, Barnes' experience shows that reputation will get you the chance, but then you have to deliver, same as every other coach._____________________________________

Don't fully agree with Barnes immediate declaration regarding the blockade, so to speak, on nonwhite managers, but considering how to the fore he has been in the drive against discrimination since his playing days, his opinion deserves to be heeded and listened to, but I don't feel its as cut and dry as he perceives.
Its something that will change over time given the natural increase of black footballers in the English game over the last 20yrs, which you would think would indirectly lead to some staying in the game, but, and I can't remember where this was, there has been a highlighting of the lack of non-white pros and expros going down the coaching route or qualification levels, which is going to hinder any chance outside of being handed roles, which Barnes effectively was. The captain to coach argument is interesting though.
The case of repeated failures moving from job to job is certainly a valid one, but its a more ingrained issue with football's closed circle than a simple one of outright discrimination IMO. Ultimately, a manager who is successful will continue at a high level regardless of his skin colour.Last edited by McDermotX; 01-04-15, 11:23 AM."I will make the boys feel your support"

Keith Curle and Ince are 2 managers that spring to mind that seem to have had a few jobs, Chris Hughton as well.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI agree with Barnes. He is my favorite player of all time, But maybe some players are just not suited to management....He failed at a big club and failed at a small club, And while plenty of other managers have, maybe its the fact that he is to big a name for a small club....And wont get another chance with a big club._____________________________________

He may well be a **** manager but he needs to be given the chance to prove otherwise. He got 11 games at Tranmere - a team who when he took over were bottom of the league and utter, utter ****. How is he going to show if he's any good or not taking over a wank team for 11 games?
Barnes managed Celtic for 29 games, winning 19, drawing twice and losing eight.
He just hasn't been given a chance to show if he's any good or not and you have to ask why. Stacks of white managers have done worse than that only to be given multiple further opportunities. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Love listening to Barnes speak though, such a natural on camera on a variety of subjects, and a gentleman to boot the one time I met him."I will make the boys feel your support"

Whoever it is speaking out (Barnes, Roberts, Collymore etc...) institutionalised racism is rife in football.
Simple reason is that the vast majority of football clubs don't have people from Black or Ethnic Minorities backgrounds on their board's.
X amount of rich white folk are going to appoint a white manager. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
