Rafa got the very best out of Gerrard. And it certainly wasn't at DM. Far from it.
    One tit for another.

Regista is not a defensive midfielder though is it? I thought it was more a deep lying play maker.

Doesn't mean Rodgers can't get the best out of him as a defensive midfielder.

I think Gerrard will always require another positionally aware player who can tackle or intercept alongside him. At the minute the question for me is whether the best blend is with Henderson (energetic, learning the positioning), Allen (good positionally but **** in the air and not a natural tackler or exceptional at interceptions) or Lucas (positioning good but appears to be lacking in turning speed/acceleration after his injury)

Everything Rodgers has done so far with players has almost perfectly worked so no reason to believe he can't see something in Gerrard for that role.

Maybe next season we'll have an awesome midfield with Gerrard at the heart of DM. Might need some new players to accompany him though (as DWW alludes to).

Everytime I see that tackle from Agger I wonder how he got away with it. It's so blatant.

First minute or so wasn't it?

im not a massive fan of gerrard in central midfield and im even less keen on him playing as our only DM.

you could drive a 747 right through our midfield and no one would put a tackle on it.

pointless exercise and probably another example of ****ing the team up to play gerrard. If there's a position for him its the free role behind sturridge and suarez. With respect to Coutinho he hasnt been brilliant this season so why not play a 4312 with our front three as gerrard, suarez and sturridge.

that way he's free to do what he does best without making our defence look poor and without compromising the strength of the midfield.

removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Henderson and Allen would be the defensive midfielders, Gerrard would be the one to dictate play from a deep position. Just because he is the deepest midfielder doesn't mean he is the holding midfielder.

Henderson and Allen are not defensive midfielders though, Henderson doesn't have the positional awareness and Allen doesn't tackle well enough.

Disagree with the criticism of the midfield but it would be interesting to see that formation played. Though we'd miss the creativity of Coutinho and the speed of Sterling

As do I. We've changed the style of football we play which gives us far more opportunity to score goals but in turn will mean we'll concede more as well, it's not necessarily a bad thing and as has been shown when we've got a settled back 4 and midfield we're far more robust.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see how we play in terms of players but also formation as it's tough to say who should be left out to get Sturridge back into the team.

Not a bad problem to have though
