Just no loyalty in football nowadays. Either from fans or players. Not a dig at anyone in particular on here. But the **** Gerrard gets off our fans is a joke. He has carried this club for years. His pass to Luis showed why he would still be my first pick in the side.

Great servant to this club . Will miss him when he is gone

Scholes never played an attacking role for United that's what gets me.

He used to crop up in positions of an attacking sense and used to score belters he was never an attacking player he was always bang in the middle of the park with his only weakness being that he couldn't tackle for ****, apart from that he was ****ing superb.

I agree that Stevie should be further up as he's lethal that way much in the same way Lampard is and always has been for Chelsea but to have a pop at someone who has been a wonderful and will continue to be a wonderful player for the next few years and say he's finished is laughable.

Steven Gerrard has never played in a defensive position whilst he's played for us it's not something he's used to. Give him some time guys.

Meanwhile it could cost us a 4th place which would encourage us to find a replacement.

Agreed it's not Gerrard's fault per se as he is following the manager's instruction but it's still a cause of consternation on the pitch as I don't think anyone expects the ball to be lost so easily.

It won't be Gerrards fault alone if we don't get top 4

If we should play players because of what they achieved in the past then give Kenny, Hansen and John Barnes a shirt and get them out there.

Stating he's not playing well in the only positions he's been asked to play in is not slating him as a player or a club legend. It's just a fact of life time moves on, he's still a capable player but the manager seems to be dead against playing him further forward, which is weird cos that's where he said he wanted him last season and then never played him there. It's not his fault but it is what it is.

Not to be singled out then.

This is the Gerrard thread is it not, the discussion in here is about him. Plenty of other players are getting pulled up for their faults too.

Think he was out of sorts first half. Out of his depth because he didn't have an answer to Villa's high pressing game. Was much better when he was asked to play further forward.
                  Are we winning?

It's a good post that man to be fair.

Correct and if you think he is the issue then fill your boots.

You're wrong if you do but go for it.

Going to be one of the hardest players to replace, in the clubs history, but replace him we must, not now but we must identify and secure. To ask him to continue to perform the miracles he has done, week in week out, at his age is daft but sentiment has now got to take a back seat. Love him but time is not on his side.

He's still a good player but he has never been a player that others can take a tactical/positional reference point from. If we persist in playing him as the deepest midfielder someone has to do that role. We only really have Lucas and Allen in the squad that could do it. I think Allen lacks the authority to do it with Gerrard in the team.

Playing where he's being asked to play is an issue,it's not THE issue, pretty sure I never said it was all his fault, but its one of them. Not sure what the problem is talking about Gerrard issues in the Gerrard thread.

It's a difficult position to play in. Lucas is our best player there at this point in time, but it seems Rodgers doesn't rate him there long term. I think he sees things in Gerrard that he'd like to see in a player in that position (his vision to switch the play from deep), which Lucas maybe doesn't have. But the things in which Lucas excels at (positional awareness in particular), Gerrard isn't good at.

So again, it's a balance which is difficult to achieve and Rodgers will need to make the decision on whether to stick with that formula or persist with Gerrard in that position. Not sure why he would experiment with it now, rather than wait till pre-season.
