I would say that Carra can't even be compared to be as essential to our brand as Gerrard is.

Gerrard is Gerrard a world class player. Everyone that know football know who Gerrard is. Carra is a Liverpool legend but outside the club he isn't that important.

Us extending his contract for even a single year means that we wouldn't be able to bring in a new CB as a result and to me that is one step back.

Let him play until his contract runs out and offer him a job within a club structure but not as a player any more.
Seriously think what you are saying

Even if we offerred Carragher £90 k per week (which they wont) it would still only mean paying £4.68 million out in wages over the year

You think that prevents us from buying another centrehalf??

      I dont

        I dont
        I do.

How many CBs can be regularly considered for a starting job. No more than 4 at the same time and I cannot see Agger, Coates nor Skrtel going anywhere any time soon + we have Wilson and Kelly..

Carra passed his peak long time ago and extending his contract for any wages at age of 34 and 1/2 is not imo what we should do.

That would be money down the drain. He won't even be worth a £30k a week deal when his current deal end.

If he get a new deal then it is only because he is Carra the local lad and not because he deserved it.

The wisdom and inside knowledge is just bull**** excuses. If we worried about that then we wouldn't be able to sell a single player.

We sold Torres and he probably know as much inside knowledge as Carra or Gerrard do.
I think your letting your blind hatred for the man get in the way of whats going on here. They are offering him a new contract because he is one of the pro's that the youngsters look up too. You will find your view of him is pretty limited in the outside world. I know your not a local fan, but that doesn't mean you cant understand the impact of a local heart of the club. Im not from Liverpool and I can get why he is important, even as a bench warmer.

You're becoming a parody of yourself.

You think Torres, who was here for a few years (mainly under one manager), probably knows as much about the history, ethos and culture of the club as two players who have spent their entire footballing careers and the vast majority of their lives at the club, under at least 6 managers and countless coaches from youth team to first team?

Whatever your views on them, they are the heartbeat of the club, as Puyol is for Barca, and Maldini was for AC Milan. Great figureheads for young players coming through, and they help to ensure that standards are maintained by the current squad.

I think this season is probably Carra's last as a regular starter, but his knowledge and experience is invaluable and we should definitely look to keep him on in some role as his playing days come to an end.

These have now been and gone, I wonder how far away he is ?

                Who knows.

He could be back in few weeks or it could take longer.

I hope he's back for QPR match.

Is that the feeling at the games or just your opinion?

                        Why?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Just my opinion, though the fella who sits next to me said he's heard the same thing. Like he could come back, play a game and then be out for another 2 months or so, chronically speaking.

Again, why? What's his condition that he can't recover from?

Something's very clearly not right with SG and i think he's done. Just my opinion.

Yeah can't disagree. Not "finished" but we've certainly seen the best of him and I imagine he'll have to adapt his game a bit. I think the rampaging Stevie of old is a thing of the past. Hope not obviously, but he's not been properly fit for ages now.
