Ironically, Gerrard's best performance in that role was actually against United when recovering from injury two years ago. It was probably his closest Scholes like performance.

Yep I've been using that example ever since, pretty sure he played on 1 groin with pain killers before going in for an operation.
He was disciplined, measured, positionally very good and used the ball very effectively. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I think it goes to show he had the head for it. His main problem is a lack of trust in team mates.Originally posted by The Birdman View Post

If he trusted his team mates to get the job done he'd sit in his position and not go wandering towards the end of games in frustration.
How many times can you think of where Gerrard left his role further up top and dropped back to get things going? Only when we had Alonso did he actually stay in position more often than not.
Put him further back and he bombs forward looking for glory when he gets frustrated.
Surround him with better players and he becomes a different player.Forwards.......

He has had a few poor games this season yet Rodgers hasn't done anything about it. I hope this changes. We need leadership apart from a captain who hasn't turned up for us in a whileOriginally posted by Fernandinho View PostI am glad we have Rodgers atm. He seems like the type of guy who would take him off if he is having a poor game...

You think?
Would be a very bold move to do so, as for that article "How to solve a problem like Gerrard" he isn't a problem, which automatically makes it void in my eyes.
He was good In Englads qualifiers, I honestly just think its him having to take the time to adjust, this is a new system for him too, and one that doesn't involve everything goin through him.
I also think given our new system teams are defending against us differently, putting tons of men behind the ball, harder for Gerrard to pick out those cutting passes in that situation, the fact he made a couple shows he still can.
Probably should have buried his chance but beaides that I dont think there was much wrong with his performancez. The times they are a changin'.

Who should Rodgers pick in Gerrard's place and who does his give the arm band to?Originally posted by clanhuman View PostHe has had a few poor games this season yet Rodgers hasn't done anything about it. I think if we had a stronger bench he may have done.Originally posted by clanhuman View PostHe has had a few poor games this season yet Rodgers hasn't done anything about it. I hope this changes. he is trying to hard to impress with his Hollywood passes again. He has been Liverpools number 1 player for a long long time now, Allen has come in and think its clear he will be dictating our play in the future, I wonder how Gerrard feels about this?_____________________________________

The fact is his best 2 seasons in terms of output and quality of consistant performances were when Rafa played him from the right that year then off Torres in the 4-2-3-1.
I'm not saying he's rubbish, I'm not advocating dropping him full stop but we gave the managers job to someone who the system is everything.
If any player doesn't buy in to or do properly what his role requires then it weakens everything and they should be left out whoever they may be.
A lesser player performing the role 100% of his abilities is much more effective than a better individual player not doing what he has been asked/told to do.
Now is exactly the right time for Rodgers to be strong (if he feels he has to) Carra and Gerrard are the 2 most dominant personalities and Carra is in his last year and Gerrard clearly isn't the player of 4/5 years ago whereas SG gives the impression that he still thinks he can play like that. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Great post Tee lad.Originally posted by Tee View PostGerrard was not that bad FFS. He was awful against Arsenal and I think some people have got a bit carried away with that performance.
Still an inspiration just a touch off form as he is coming to terms with this new system. He is a proper footballer and will adjust and show that he is far from finished.
Wouldn't have been that bad a performance if he scored rather than hit the post would it?
Lets hold judgements on all the players for few more games yet because as far as I can see we are getting there.
BTW Stevie is going to demolish United on Sunday!Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.
