Perhaps Rodgers could use Gerrard's Euro and England efforts to site tiredness and "rest" him for a bit...?

I'd play 2 up top (Suarez & Sterling), Gerrard just behind and 3 in midfieldOriginally posted by Pablo1981 View PostHe just needs to alter his game slightly but is he willing/able to do it? I remember reading his interview about a month ago where he said he's not willing to alter his playing style yet. Unless he does I think we're going to have problems. He can't keep playing Hollywood balls like that and then jogging back once he's given it away. It's unforgivable.
In the mean time I'd try to play him as part of the front three and not the midfield three. If he keeps giving the ball away then it's not normally quite as damaging. I'd play it something like this until Lucas is back:
------Allen---Lucas----
--------Shelvey-------
Gerrard--Borini--Suarez
And if he's still to lazy to track back in that position I'd drop him to the bench.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I don't think he can play so up high any more.Originally posted by clanhuman View PostI think Gerrard looks much better on paper than he actually is anymore. At his peak you would look at him on paper and your expectations would be heightened. Though, the difference was he always delivered. You look at him now and your expectations are the same, you think brilliant its Steven Gerrard. However, now the top performances are few and far between. If these poor performances continue, even the name on paper will not hold any weight anymore. I hope this is not the end of Gerrard.
He is probably in the best physical shape in a long time but his burst of pace is gone.
He may not want to admit it but imo the role he played for England at Euros where he should be now on.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Another game, another chance to see Gerrard in this system.
I've been wondering how Mourinho was planning to use Gerrard AND Lampard in the same midfield of a 4-3-3. Gerrard was once able to perform a box-to-box role with Lampard, but Gerrard runs with the ball whereas Lampard does the off the ball movements.
Now, his mobility between the centre of the pitch and the penalty box is less of a quality to his game, and now it's either up to him to redefine his role, or we revert to a 4-2-3-1 (Rodgers is clearly able to play this), and have Allen-Lucas holding. It's fine saying that Gerrard could play as someone who 'knits the midfield', keeps things ticking along, holding his position when defending, but pushing forward when attacking, but that's not how he plays. He can do one or the other, but not both in my opinion.
I'd still love to see Lucas used in a midfield trio pushing forward. It's something we've only tried a few times, and that was under Hodgson in the Europa League.

He was better than he has beenOriginally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostGerrard did well yesterday, probably our best player. Got things moving and despite performing a deep role, still got forward and was unlucky when hitting the post.
Was never our best player
He should have scored.. Missing the target from that position is never unlucky.Vive la France

A little rough ... not up to his standards ... played some nice through balls .. pressed well but did lose possession in dangerous places once or twiceOriginally posted by Eric Swindler View PostI thought he was our worst player.Anybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. Nov 2015

Im Gerrard's biggest fan but nobody can convince me that in a deep role he's anything other than a square peg in a round hole.Originally posted by MrNice View PostA little rough ... not up to his standards ... played some nice through balls .. pressed well but did lose possession in dangerous places once or twiceLast edited by Eric Swindler; 16-09-12, 05:03 PM.
