Yeah, I tend to think that this is the best outcome. It's just strange that it was not discussed.

And even though he wasn't really doing it as a first pick, his ability to grab a goal or take a pen/free kick would have been useful to have had this season. He scored 13 times for us last season. Not a bad return for an ageing midfielder.

Gerrard will end up being viewed as a bit of a knob and divide the fans. Some will read the Daily Mail extracts and come to the "**** sake FSG.....you should have kept gerrard" conclusion.

A lot of people last year (myself included) were happy he was going. This was for a few reasons - the main ones being that (a) he wasn't the type of person that was happy being a squad player (despite what his new book says) (b) that his pace was gone and as such he never really merited a place in a team that likes to press the opposition and (c) his influence in the dressing room and status as a legend would be detrimental to the manager. Brendan needed to be able to be the boss. Also, there would come a time where we were going through a rough patch and inevitably some fans would call for Gerrard to be boss. And that presence was never going to give the manager the best opportunity to be a success.

If Gerrard is going to be in newspapers stating things like "Liverpool could have kept me as a coach instead of Mike Marsh" then it's also undermining the current manager. How is this kind of statement going to help the club progress right now? In reality it is just going to undermine - and therefore slightly crack up a little bit of pressure - on a manager that is already under pressure.

So for a guy that loves liverpool fc, and wants nothing more than for LFC to do well, then he is going about things the wrong way.

Gerrard was a brilliant servant to LFC. Looking at how football is right now, we might never see a local lad come through the ranks and go on to be one of the best players in the world AND stay loyal to LFC for a period of 17 years - turning down untold riches elsewhere in the process. I am so ****in gutted he didn't win the league that time he slipped. His life story would have been an unbelievable movie! And to cap off his LFC career with a league title would have been so deserved.

However, Liverpool FC paid him millions of pounds over 17 years. And now he has another book just to top himself up with an extra million or so. And in it, he is complaining that LFC didn't keep him as a coach learning his trade??? He must know that this is going to be back page news that undermines the current manager.

What is ironic is that Gerrard expected LFC to be the best they can be. So if you rewind 15 years or so and if say someone like John Barnes was a first team coach - even though he wasn't the right man for the job - then players like Gerrard and Owen at the time would be perfectly right to think "this is a bit ****.....the club should get the best coaches possible". At a club like Liverpool, it should always be on merit.

If Gerrard wants to be a coach or a manager or whatever, then go and do an Eddie Howe on it and learn your trade. Go and manage Wigan for 300k a year or whatever and see if you can bring them back up....... work your way up so that you deserve the LFC manager job.

I feel like I shouldn't even give it the time of day but some of his latest comments are ludicrous. We all know he didn't like Rafa but this absolute ****e about how his bum-chum Mourinho should've managed Liverpool is taking the piss. It's amazing how much drivel top players / ex-players talk.

Yeah he needs to concentrate on his new team rather than mouthing off.

He's full of **** if thinks he was always thinking about LFC.
He’s here! I *know* he’s here! That’s him, I’m telling you that’s him! You hear me? I’m telling you it’s *Keyser Soze*!

he is just trying to raise a few eyebrows and generate some interest in his new book.

He's more than earned the right to express how he feels. If he wants to speak openly about things that have gone on and his opinions on them then so what. It might open people's eyes a little bit about his ego etc but that's his problem

I thought his comments about being able to "walk into a player/coach job" at LFC was a bit presumptuous. Does he even have a Uefa A licence or any discernible ability to coach players? Not to mention he simple wasn't good enough to play anymore. He probably would walk into top coaching job in England though, most if it is who you are not what you've done.

Very presumptuous, and that's being kind, if that's how it comes across. Can't say I ever heard of Gerrard actively doing his badges - unless he pursued them after giving up the internationals.

Some of what he's said today 'only one of the ex managers he wouldn't be able to pick up the phone to' drivel makes me realise Stevie will unlikely be a top manager. To be one you need to lead with your brain first, work out what will make people tick (as Rafa did with him) and then manage them accordingly. Stevie played his best football under Rafa, he basically acknowledges the reason why in the interview - yet he doesn't understand that it was in no small part due to the management he claims to not like. Stevie is all heart and passion - not a good attribute for successful management.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
