Obviously a ban of more than say 6 months would end his Liverpool career. No way will they wait for his return.

I'm not convinced it does, disciplinary stuff comes through quickly a 6 month ban only keeps him out until about October, that's about 10 PL games, which obviously is a pain, but if the manager rates him I don't think he's going anywhere.

The club have said they won't be picking him while its ongoing. It won't be sorted by Thursday. He's not banned, but he's not playing either.

Rio was banned for quite a while when at the Mancs he'll likley get a massive fine but I can't see us just getting rid.

This is what needs to be established,yes it was after the Utd game but when he took the banned substance is what needs to be known.

No idea, but I'd assume it would mitigate rather than exculpate.

The blame will ultimately lie with the player and if found guilty it is almost certain that he be banned from all (club and international) football for a period of months.

However if the club has a strict policy on regulating what is given to players, and it turns out that the banned substance was given to him while on international duty I expect that the club will be seeking compensation from the French FA.

Obviously we still know very little at this point, so this is largely speculation.

Cancel his contract . Didn't see United or City cancelling Rio or Kolos contracts. He'll serve his ban and then be back in the fold or sold for actual money rather than give him away for free.

Rio and Kolo were convicted under (old) FA rules. This is a UEFA violation and they toughened up their rules to be WADA compliant in 2015. He will get a 4 year ban if they prove he deliberately took a banned product, and up to 2 years if it was accidental. Article 10 of the regulations is the most important - if he can prove that it was an innocent mistake on his part then they have leeway to reduce the sentence, but it'll all depend on the precise circumstances, and at the moment we don't even know what he's accused of taking never mind when or why.

If he gets 2 years or more then his contract will be cancelled. We won't pay a player for 2 years while he's banned.
