I coached football for years but even I accept that it is just opinions. When Liverpool play badly I really hurt for a couple of days - I have been hurting a lot recently! - but I try to avoid posting knee jerk reactions and I wish there was a website - or even a page - I could go to that is free of such reactions.

Players do not become bad players over night but they can be inconsistent; fantastic one week and poor the next. Winning teams do not rely on inconsistent players. We have inconsistency in almost all positions.

Kinda stating the obvious isn't it?

Some ex pros get a rougher ride than even Dan Perkins. And journalists who watch many live games per week.

Personally, the Internet has democratised opinions, and made almost all of them less interesting or relevant to me.

Talking about opinions interests me more than the opinions themselves. But I'm bored of even that now.

What we really need is insight. And there are very few who can offer that, either here or anywhere else.
      Oh I don't know.

This .. so much this ....

Problem is football is over simplified for ignorant masses and its led by the british media which are by and large, now a parody of themselves. I don't subscribe the school of thought that you have to go to the game to know about the game. You have to follow the game, follow your team, read about your team, watch your team, try to understand what is happening, what needs to happen. Most people are in fight or flight mode, football fan angry ... football fan happy ...

The major problem is the 24 hour sports news cycle in the UK particularly .. its created a cottage industry of opinion and dissection, at best you tend to have fan lead outlets discussing issues at length but even the good ones fall prey to oversimplification and emotion led observations. One week everything is great, a draw and a loss later the world is caving in ... players who just a week ago were showing promise, were been lauded and demanded to get a run, now are not good enough. At worse you have the major media outlets like Sky, BTsport, The Mirror, The Guardian and it is literally panto Oh No Hes Behind you time ... they start there annual witch hunt for First Manager to be sacked in earnest every year and once they claim there first scalp they swiftly move on to their next victim which has a major effect on the fanbases.

Its like the ****ty 4 year political system ... nothing gets done .. you have a constant revolving door of managers .. players etc .. which feed the story machine which is the football press in the UK and its poisoning the game.

Its like to them, the story is far more important than the sport. All of this gets feed to the average fan who, like much of Society is not really present nor has the gumption to delve deeper to form their own opinions, they just consumes it with no filter, not inspection, then they take their opinions which have been fed to them by the media online which in turn acts like a virus and before you know you have waves of emotion with very little insight, very little patience.

Fans have forgotten how to just enjoy the game , the game is not perfect, players are not perfect, its the imperfections which lead to the fleeting glorious moments of pure football which ultimately what it is all about. Years gone by, fans would look forward to the game, watch the game, have a few pints and talk about the game ... then go back to work ...now they are bombarded with people telling them your football club needs to be a perfect winning machine, every club needs to be able to win the lg or get into Europe anything less is ultimate failure which can only be solve my wholesale changes

I would have less problems with people slagging off Sahko because to be fair he was shocking there is no getting away from it, if they just tipped their opinion cap to the fact he was so ****ing obviously rushed back from injury ... People can say, well .. you have to play to a certain level .. but its not as simple as that sometimes ... if hes carrying an injury still or lets say hes not 100% with his cardio, or muscle is still a little tight, that has a major effect on his mentality, he may not have the legs to get to balls he would normally do,

For me he had a shocker sure, but when match fit he is one of the best players at the club.

I don't think you can complain about the simplification of opinion when football clubs make no effort to provide insight.

You turn up, watch the match, and it ends in celebration or commiserations.

Why complicate things with levels of insight?

Seems like a solution to the problem of free expression on the internet. Should we all become educated in football because a few thick *******s take their internet freedoms too far?

It is too boring and there is nothing added to the discussions. Might as well try and troll it as much as we can.
            Are we winning?

That's too reductionist. Dom won't bite.

It's for my own gratification, reductionism be damned.

On the generalities: Not helped of course by MOTD, which thinks (a) all we want to see are goals, when actually football fans love the ebb and flow of games too and (b) we need experts to give us a not-very-insightful view of things we noticed the first time. If the BBC thinks the majority want MOTD to be like that, couldn't they give us something very different in MOTD2?

On the specifics: It is obvious sometimes that players are not fully fit yet few allow that to stand in the way of a knee jerk screaming session.
