The fact that he's filled in at other positions might suggest that he wasn't that suited to CM once he made it in to the first team.

...he's certainly been impressive in the opening fixtures. Looks like he's calmed down a bit since he was with us... but hey, four games in he's still got plenty left to get a few red cardsOriginally posted by Rich View PostShelvey would be better in our midfield than Big Emre right now.

I see him playing the role that Lucas filled against West Ham...however, with Henderson and Lallana injured, it meant that Can had to be pushed further upfield, and I don't think he's that sort of player. He looks better picking the ball up and charging forward or picking a pass, not the sort to make runs and get from box-to-box.
I believe, once players are back from injury, we will see a midfield three of
Hederson-Can-Milner, with Emre being the furthest back and Henderson and Milner doing the running.
Previously i believed the three would alternate, but I don't think Emre has either the engine or the game intelligence for that yet.

when we sold Shelvey for £5.5m, then we really should have had a Barca-Real style buy-back clause inserted. If we could purchase him back for something like £9m then i am sure that Swansea would still have bought him......and i think that we would possibly have brought him back by now. I can see Shelvey going somewhere like Spurs for £18m in a year or two...Originally posted by Tribute View Post...he's certainly been impressive in the opening fixtures. And when you consider that the £5.5m we received for Shelvey basically paid for Luis Alberto, then it is frustrating...
Getting back to Emre Can, I hope to see him play as defensive midfielder pretty soon.

I have thought the same, he seems to like the odd crazy charge forward in games, almost as if he gets a bit bored with what he's doing, he was doing it last season too when playing at CB.Originally posted by Pablo View PostHe doesn't look suited to holding to me. Not sure he's disciplined enough positionally. Not sure where he fits in ideally to be honest! The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

That's a very good description actually. I think he's just unlucky genetically, i.e. has to work twice as hard than everyone else to just get to the same fitness levels as them.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostAnfield Wrap guys suggest that he has the brain and feet of a footballer but not the body.
Not sure what that means but he's not exactly a pie eater is he!
I know the feeling, its fecking awful knowing you're better than just about everyone in your Saturday league team but they'll roll out of nightclubs with a fag in their mouths and still run around more than you.
One tit for another.

Can would be a liability in front of the back 4... he is far too undisciplined. Rash challenges after he has given the ball away or let a player stroll past him and didnt pick him up.
He is much better going forward but has feet like bambi sometimes. He is young with lots of potential but not a starter for me.
