He really should try to keep things simple in the final third, I'd bench him in place of Allen for Sunderland.

seems to lose the plot, so headless on times. Like many others before the game I thought Allen deserved in place in the starting line up. I know Can is a big favourite on here but IMO he personifies a jack of all trades, master of none.

Whether he can find out what he is and develop, is another matter but I find him incredibly frustrating. I appreciate his work rate in the midfield but he just seems to run around like a maniac without actually doing much. He isn't good defensively so he's not a DM, he doesn't dictate possession or dominate the midfield, so he isn't a CM. He has a grand total of 1 goal and 2 assists in the league in the last season and a half, so being an attacking midfielder is also out of the question. If I was to put a label on him it would be a box to box midfielder, unfortunately not a very effective one.

I don't think we should ignore Can's height when it comes to picking the side. He's one of the few that break the 6-foot barrier. We are a short-arse side, swapping Can for Allen makes us potentially even more vulnerable to set-pieces.

I don't believe we could functionally be much worse. I also think it is as much an organizational issue as it is a height one for us at the minute.

I just think the bloke needs a complete rest from the 1st team, give him a week off or something to recharge his batteries.

Gerrard was a completely different animal IMO. So explosive and dynamic & that aggression he had seems a foreign concept to our whole squad. Can will be lucky if he's a 10th the player Gerrard was.

I wasn't comparing them directly, only the need to focus on harnessing their energy to be more disciplined and effective like Rafa did with Gerrard.
