Compared to a centre back, Can has got a lot more skill and composure on the ball, which is why he stood out in that position as it's not something we are used to seeing to that degree. In terms of actual defending and heading ability in that CB role he was average to below average.

When moved back into midfield, amongst more skilful players, he doesn't stand out as much.

We do tend to do that, but i think it's out of desperation at the absolute ****e we've bought, we tend to hang our hats on those that show any form of promise.

He's looked really good for Germany U21s, stand-out good, in the middle of the park. He needs time to adapt to the pace in the PL which he hasn't had (playing CB is a different discipline as already mentioned).

Can is one of the least of my worries as one that will make it.
