Well his role in the side was supposedly a factor at the end of the season. Based on much of last season's form he was probably on the fringes of the side, at the end of last season he improved a little, but this season he has been immense, our best CM by a distance based on current form IMO

Aye. He's had ups and downs but I think his overall trend shows serious development, as things stand I think he deserves the role he supposedly craves.

Very good point, he looks fitter and he made some great runs today. He was busting a gut, sprinting to keep up with Salah for the third.

Neville made the point at how Can always want the ball, and never shies away, willing to show a bit of aggressivity, and drive when needed. I'd be interested to see what happens when Coutinho comes back into the fold.

Agreed. Make him earn his place. No one deserves to be dropped at the moment. Says it all that he's going to Barca to be in the 1st team yet he isn't guaranteed a start in ours.

On Can, last year I wouldn't have been too disappointed if he had been sold, but he is really coming into his own this year. His decision making and spacial awareness have really improved and also his trademark runs have become more impactfull. What I noticed yesterday that impressed me the most was his willingness to track back and cover the space in midfield. Something which Gini does really well. There was one point in the first half he made a massive run upfield to support Mane and we lost possession. Sanchez was free and ready to counter and Can seen this and busted a gut to stop the ball being able to be played to him. Sanchez never got the ball and you wouldn't have seen it on TV but that is something Can wouldn't have done last year.

He has become a guaranteed starter at the moment and if he continues on this form our best midfielder.

Right now, if it's a choice between Can and Coutinho, for me I'd choose Can. If he keeps up this form he will be our main midfield player.

I do think we're forgetting how good Phil is with our great performances in his absence, but I also think he'd have to earn his place back and he can sit on the bench when he comes back. Little ****.

Damn. I had him as my mom but that compilation makes his game yesterday seem even better. He's the heart and balls of our team at the moment is Emre. Would be so, so gutted to see him go. Potential to be captain in future but to be honest I think he's a leader with or without the armband and all this at what- 23/24? Give him the contract he deserves and make him a mainstay of the team for years to come.
