So whilst it looks like we should keep Coutinho for now, I am actually worried that Can hasn't signed a contract yet. Would be a massive loss.

It is a worry. There was something interesting from Wenger on the Guardian podcast - he thinks it will become increasingly common for players to run down their contracts. He thinks they feel they can maximise their earning that way and clubs feel that paying singing on fees, bigger wages and then agents taking a cut of transfers makes the whole thing not work out for anyone a lot of the time now."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Massive, I don't really see why. A player on the edge of the first team but with lots of potential, could be a great that gets away but based on what he does now, it wouldn't be a big loss.Originally posted by Paddy View PostSo whilst it looks like we should keep Coutinho for now, I am actually worried that Can hasn't signed a contract yet. I can see Kenneth's point. I'm a massive Can fan, but at the end of the day, if he's not in the team you don't tend to go 'ahh FFS', like you would with Coutinho, Mane, Matip.
So although it wouldn't be a massive blow in the sense that we would immediately notice on the pitch, it will be a massive kick in the stones when he's bossing games for years to come in Juve's colours. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Think that's more to do with their respective alternatives.Originally posted by RedReet View PostI can see Kenneth's point. I'm a massive Can fan, but at the end of the day, if he's not in the team you don't tend to go 'ahh FFS', like you would with Coutinho, Mane, Matip.

If Can is out and Gini comes in, then fine. However if Can is out and someone like Kevin Stewart plays, then it's 'ahh FFS'.
Likewise this season, we'd definitely miss having Can to call on when players like Henderson or Gini aren't available..

Let's just hope we don't find ourselves in this position anyway. Hopefully get off to a good start this year and get things wrapped up soon enough. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's free to play for any CL team as long as he doesn't play in the group games but that only affects the winter window as the summer will be shut by then.Originally posted by Scratch View PostIf we make it through to the CL, is Emre not cup-tied as we are still in the competition? If we go out at the pre-lim stages, he is free to play for another CL team?
He's not going anyway as we need more midfielders, not less.
