Being honest, we'd be mad at this point to refuse him the deal he wants, it shouldn't have gotten to this point, but it has. Even if he asked for a £15m release clause that kicks in after 18 months we'd be better off, obviously that's an extreme example but even that is better than losing him for nothing.

Unless the club is looking to avoid release clauses entirely and caving in for 1 player will lead other to ask for the same.

It's pretty much fair enough on his part also. He obviously feels he is good enough to be a starter but can receive no guarantees of getting this. He has also only really shown the form to deserve the guaranteed start over the last 6 months.

Hopefully he signs a contract becomes a regular first XI player we win a trophy or two and he shows no desire to leave.

Paying these exorbitant salaries is just not sustainable anymore and I can see the whole shemozzle imploding soon.

There could be loads of reasons other money for seeing out the contract.

If you go to Juve, you're guaranteed league titles and Champions League games. You've got a good chance of winning cups too. Much better than at LFC.

He might not be settled in the UK.

He might want to experience living in a new culture or nicer climate.

To just assume that players do this for the money isn't right imo, but it suits a lazy narrative.

With him only having 10 months left it would seem weird not to agree to a release clause because as things stand he'll leave for nothing.

Maybe as suggested that the club has decided against release clauses for and doesn't want to set a precedent.
