Most stuff didn't come off, and he slipped about three times when trying to shoot, but he more than anyone else was trying to be progressive and...well, do stuff.

When he had players to pass too in dangerous areas he was happy to play 1-2's and do neat quick passing in and around the box.Originally posted by frank the tank View PostHe takes too long. He feels the need to beat a man when there is absolutely no need to....poor in game decisions would be acceptable for a 21 year old but not for a 26 year old, £25m signing
But he was slightly guilty of trying to hard. A composed team will hold possession and pass back and forth seemingly with little or no penetration. It will look frustrating and like they're going nowhere, but in reality they're just waiting for one player in the defence to lose focus. As soon as that player loses focus, they penetrate the space.
But as often seen by the home team at Anfield, it will be LFC that gets frustrated before the opposition. LFC will probe, but then become annoyed until someone dribbles into traffic or takes on a ridiculous pot shot. In the past games I've seen everyone from Manquillo to Skrtel take ridiculous 30 yarders on.Forwards.......

I'm not worried, he's class and he's going to be brilliant for us once he's fitter.
Playing that full game last night will have done him wonders.
Reminds me a bit of a hybrid of John Barnes and Peter Beardsley the way he glides with the ball and turns and twists.
Rare to see a baller like that these days.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

The two players were clearly our main targets this summer, given how the summer went and the names we were linked to that is pretty clear to me, so in this sense the fees are irrelevant. Lallana has been injured and Markovic missed parts of pre-season. If you can't see the quality Lallana brings us then there isn't much point arguing that
The latter is a 20 year old in a new country and a new team and has made (I think) two starts. Much like Henderson, Lucas and other players, I personally see the raw qualities Markovic has and think he will be a success, his problem at the moment is in his head. I'd be surprised if he could just waltz into a new team and start firing straight away. The problem in his head seems exacerbated by the fact the rest of the team are adjusting to new players, we have important players out, and the crowd aren't exactly brilliant at the moment. I do however trust the management to help him improve, much like Henderson, and we will gradually see him take more responsibility with the ball and fulfil his potential and be a good player for us.
I mention the fees because i think that we vastly overpaid.
This does matter because if we didn't vastly overpay for them, then we could have got someone better instead. We are not Man City or Chelsea - and with FFP now in as well, it matters even more. The fees don't matter when it is a truly world class player that has the potential to change games on his own. I wonder did Ian Ayre, Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the super committee feel a bit cheesed off towards the end of the transfer window - when Madrid were whoring around Di Maria but we didn't have a pot to piss in because we blew it on Lallana, Markovic and Lambert. Or if Draxler or Reus becomes available in the next few months / year.
Lets say everyone in our squad was 100% fit. What do you think our starting 11 would be? I reckon it would be Mignolet in goal. Defense would possibly be Moreno, Lovren, Skrtel and its debatable between Manquillo and Flanagan (or maybe Rodgers would still pick Johnson). Midfield for me would be Gerrard, Henderson and either Coutinho or Allen - some will say Lallana instead of either of those two but i wouldnt think Rodgers agrees. Upfront then Sterling behind Sturridge and Balotelli.
We spent over £100m ffs.

So you've got an issue with the transfer targets / policy, really. Not the price. The club got those people that they wanted. With the exception of those players who they wanted, but didn't want to come for whatever reason.Originally posted by frank the tank View PostI mention the fees because i think that we vastly overpaid.

every player should have a price and we build the best squad possible then.Originally posted by dom9 View PostSo you've got an issue with the transfer targets / policy, really. Not the price. I'd have no problem with Lallana or Markovic (or Lovren) if they cost 40% of what they actually did cost, were bought as squad players and also we bought someone that would improve the first team as well...
Put it this way, Lallana + Lovren + Markovic = £65m approx...... in my view, we spent £65m and didn't really improve the first 11 that much. We spent too much money on squad players. We would have been better off keeping Agger, promoting Suso and buying Di Maria.

That's inflation for you. 2 years ago Suarez would have been worth £40m. The price of players has inflated with the new TV deal. It's all relative.Originally posted by frank the tank View Postevery player should have a price and we build the best squad possible then.

One of our biggest problems last season was a lack of squad depth. We would look to the bench late in a game to see who could change things, and we'd see Moses and Aspas. Its a squad game now, we shouldn't be fixated with a "first 11" - that might win us specific games, but it wont be enough over a whole season.Originally posted by frank the tank View Postevery player should have a price and we build the best squad possible then.
