It all depends on the wage related payoffs which Benteke is expecting as well. If we have to pay him the difference in wages for the remainder of the contract, it can be substantial depending on the Benteke's current wages and what Palace are offering.

We have become somewhat good at selling players under FSG. I am sure this will be handled well.

For the sake of £3m he should be gone gone gone.
It is not as simple as that is it. Maybe Klopp is ok spending upto 7m on an unproven leftback so that the money saved over purchasing an experienced left back (who may cost 15m) can be used towards other signings (Zielinski, Dahoud). If we have to spend upto 10 maybe he thinks he is better of spending it on an experienced left back and sacrificing one of Zielinski, Dahoud.

That approach is fine if you don't mind whether you sell or not. We get screwed over by clubs when buying because we are generally taking one of their best players and they don't really want to sell, either they get top price for the player or they hang on to him, which is probably a win-win for them.

Our situation at the moment (and often when we are selling players) is that we are wanting the player off the books he is on a good wage and we don't want the player to be here when the window closes and Palace know that. The consequences of not doing a deal are worse for us than for Palace - we have to continue to pay his wages, and if he's not playing for us his value will have dropped by the next transfer window. The later it gets in the window the more likely we are to let him go for a lower price just to get him off the books.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Not necessarily true. Christian Benteke pretty much single handedly kept Aston Villa in the premier league with his goals for two seasons. I think he is an invaluable striker for a team like Palace and given their style of play he can propel them to a top 10 place. They have also invested in wingers who can complement Benteke.

Maybe Klopp himself thinks that rather than taking a huge loss on Benteke I would rather have him here as a plan C.

Conversely, we know Palace have teh cash as they bid higher for that other Belgian who probably isn't even as good as Benteke. They are hardly a big club, if they walk away from Benteke, they hardly have their choice of quality forwards to turn too. Very few, if any of Benteke's (Villa) quality would even consider going to them. Also, them not taking him doesn't mean we will be keeping him on our books, there is still likely to be interest in him, even if we do end up desperate and sell him for less than the Palace bid.

Also, he's perfect for them. They badly missed Wickham last year who is half the player and Berahino (if true) isn't likely to be much better than Gayle or Frasier Campbell as he's not a strong enough target man.

Finally, there should be a Pardew levy, so I'd be looking a further £3m, so that's £6m more on top of what they offered or they can watch us send him to some Italian club on loan until his contract runs down.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Yeah, from the championship at that last line!

£20m bid in for Berahino from Palace.

Crazy. The idea that he's a good striker is a hype and media fed myth.

He scored 26 goals in a single game against a team 4 leagues below or whatever it was. Got to be worth £15m for that alone

Did we really get a £29m offer from Palace and blew it away because of extra £3m? Did that really happen???

That's over 10% if you look at it this way it's quite a large chunk of the transfer fee

It's the most we'll ever get offered. Value is only going to go down with few games and less time on contract

But he's worth far more to a club like them during this transfer window as he near as dammit guarantees PL survival.

he's rumoured to been about 120 grand a week, half a million we will have paid since turning down the fee and add another half million if he goes last day in the window, just get it done
