Jurgen Klopp once decided against signing a striker because of the way he celebrated.

During his time at Borussia Dortmund, the German was close to adding a new forward to his squad after a lengthy scouting process.

But Klopp then went to watch him live and was unimpressed with his behaviour after finding the net, according to Dortmund's marketing director, Carsten Cramer.

"There is a story Jurgen told me about a striker he was interested in," Cramer told MirrorFootball.

"He watched him in several videos and said: 'This is a striker I want to sign.'

"Then he saw him playing and he scored a goal. He was watching how he was celebrating his goal and said: 'This is not a guy for Dortmund. He is celebrating for himself and not the club.'

"All the players know the club is the most important thing. I'm very sure that the brand philosophy was important when we hired someone like Jurgen Klopp."

Cramer also confirmed that the Bundesliga giants were interested in signing Christian Benteke when Klopp was still in charge.

"When Jurgen was in Dortmund, we were thinking about signing him," he said ahead of Dortmund’s clash with Bayern Munich which was live on BT Sport.

"But he was so expensive, so we couldn't realise it. We were in negotiations but the transfer fee was above £20million, which was not possible for us.

"I know Jurgen's opinion and was kind of convinced about him. Seeing him playing now for Liverpool... well, most of the time he's not playing.

So who was that striker I wonder, as for Benteke the playing time tells us all we need to know. I see some are jumping on the give him a chance bandwagon after yesterdays energetic cameo but really ....no!

          Questions for Brendan on Liverpool

Question: What's your verdict on Liverpool since you left?

Brendan Rodgers: It's not really for me to comment on. They have a very good manager in Jurgen Klopp in place. It is going to take time to bed in his methods and how he wants to work. He has some very good players there. The expectancy of course is to win the league, we went very close in my time and obviously Jurgen will go in and feel that he can improve on that and that's why the owners made the change. They felt they wanted to improve and to improve on runners-up would be to win the league but it is going to take time. I'm sure the owners will give him that time.

Gob****e. The target was never for him to win the league, simply to deliver CL football and he did that just once. With Luis Suarez.

Not really sure what Rodgers has said wrong there

FSG didn't get Klopp just to regularly finish top 5.

Not a lot wrong - apart from the classic Brendanism of "It's not really for me to comment on", before gleefully commenting at length

But what is slightly irritating is his inference that Klopp will not have succeeded unless he wins the league.

No mate - you came 7th, then 2nd, then left us floundering nowhere after spunking millions. We want to improve on wasting money all the time and floundering in mid-table.

I'm not into slagging him off, or any former manager really, but he's really quite disingenuous sometimes. Turn it in Brendan.

Yeah but he didn't actually comment on what he was asked. Instead he just spoke generally about the managerial change.

Yes the 2nd place thing is him putting a positive slant on his time, but ultimately he's right. Klopp has said he feels he can win the league and of course that's what the owners want.

All managers should take a vow of silence regarding their previous club for 5 years.

Plus the fact he must understand that improvement doesn't just mean winning the ****in league, the insincere git! so dropping in the... 'i got second so improvement can only be winning it now'... is pathetic.

We looked no better as a team when he left from the day he walked in, and i have to seriously wonder what would have been had Suarez not been here when he did arrive.

In his 3 full seasons here he finished 7th, 2nd and 6th, the team/squad he left wasn't a squad that finished as runners up, it was a squad that finished 6th and was under performing this season (14 points from 10 games under Rodgers).
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He basically made out he was sacked for not winning the league and thats what Klopp has been tasked with, its nonsense.
