You'd think if Southampton paid a fee originally it would have been much harder to negotiate cancelling that loan and getting him here, so I'm going to guess he won't be costing us much more than wages. As for a permanent switch it seems pretty nailed on that we'll be getting Matip in the summer so you'd imagine Caulker is just a stop gap, unless he seriously impresses anyway.

There is very little downside to this. I'd much rather Caulker on loan than go out and blow 10 mil on a centre back that will never play when all of ours are fit again in the medium/ long term.

I think a better target will be available in the summer. If he's ****e obviously he just gets shipped out the door in 5 months or so, no problem. If he's so terrible, Illori will get a chance anyway. If he's average he will be sent back too.

In the unlikely event that he's incredible from now to the end of the season, then maybe he comes into the reckoning as a summer signing. If this is the case, none of us will complain, because who doesn't want an incredible centre back.

There is so little to lose in this situation.

I don't think anyone is supposed to be, klopp has explained the pragmatism behind it. If not for injuries he wouldn't be at LFC.

Klopp will make him into a 50mill player.

Steven Caulker - hope he turns out to be a corker
and a defensive talker not a baulker
or i'd become his stalker if I was a crazy RAWKer

He's a big unit but having looked at his stats he doesn't score many. Our **** corners aren't going to improve that record either.

precisely. As unexcited as we are it is still an interesting signing - does Klopp and the backroom team have a good eye and can they turn him around? No great loss if not. I get the sense from Klopp's comments that he sees as much value in training players as signing them and read with interest his apparent plans to bring Mario back in the summer.
                          Really?

Meanwhile the title of this thread should win the prize at the end of the season - "Most unlikely and unpredictable yet accurate thread title of the season".

I think Klopp is demanding more from his players as he's clearly said we will be pressing high up the pitch and inviting teams to play it long.

What a rollercoaster of a season!
