There are more than enough games for 5 midfielders and Henderson gets his fair amount of injuries also.

That might be so, but its not turned out that way, and he has been our most reliable midfielder, and probably translates his performances most faithfully to Klopps vision.

I would guess he may want to play in a more attacking style more in common with his international role. Or he might want a mega offer to retire on.

If everyone does stay fit, it becomes a more interesting question. How much would he have played?

I would worry if he did leave, especially with our injury record. I dont think Ox or Keita are anywhere as consistent. I guess a lot depends on Thiagos fitness. Jones is a bit tactically naive. I think 6 is a good number of midfielders though (Hendo, Thiago, Fabio, Oxo, Gino and Jones...eo), so if we do sell, we need to buy a solid replacement.

Look I'm not doubting his importance to us. But from his point of view coming into the new season he's probably thinking to himself I'm not first choice. We all see how vital he is and he's always fit to play but players have ego's, it's what they think that's important. I can fully understand him wanting to go elsewhere for a new challenge. Do I think he'll be as successful elsewhere? Hell no. Our system and manager make our players look better than they are. Few leave and do well. I hope he stays but wouldn't hold it against him if he chose to leave.

I can understand him wanting to try something new (Italy or Spain) and going there with a hefty signing on fee. I think if he stays then worrying about his spot should be a given not just for him but for any player - they all need to earn it week in week out. Gini usually plays when fit and if he maintains his current level then that shouldn’t change.

I doubt this, even with all midfielders fit Gini makes the starting lineup and deservedly so, he's the most complete of all of our midfielders.

I also wouldn't doubt that if he leaves he will be successful elsewhere because he's a world class player who has been successful with the Netherlands and newcastle before Liverpool.

I'm not sure his family actually lives in england though. Could be mistaken but I think his kids live in the Netherlands so maybe this is a factor, particularly after this year where somebody's ability to travel around or within europe regularly is so much harder.

If he stays, he will definitely leave this club a legend. If he does leave next year, he's been an incredible buy who has played a massive role in getting this club back to the top.

Even just thinking about his very explicit contributions in big moments, his goal against boro to secure CL football. His brace against Barca that turned the tide of the tie.

Going to Italy or Spain won't make that any better then

It is what it is. Hopefully we are at the level where we can stop worrying about how to cope with players leaving and consider it as an opportunity to evolve and hopefully improve.

                          Yes exactly, this.

Also, if he was going to sign this contract, offered to him at the beginning of Dec, he would have indicated it well before Xmas

yip i think he is gone.

His contract should have been sorted out 18 months ago...... when a lot of our other first teamers got their deals

I think its a case of his age and contract both just fell at awkward times, he rightly wants a longer highly paid contract. Whereas we rightly don't want to match those terms.

If he was 1 year younger I don't think this would even be a debate.
