But that is exactly what appears to be happening right now?
    Really?

He's been backed for years despite his dodgy defending. But he chose the one game to just walk around and do nothing, against the one opposition he shouldnt be doing that ever to. Thats why its happening. I swear any other league and people would be wondering if he had a bet on UTD winning. Because thats how bad it looked.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for now. When he came on last night, he made a difference going forward and tracked back well. I'd be happy to keep that version of Trent.

Probably not what you are meaning, but that makes it sound like he has been some sort of liability during his time at Liverpool.

The Manc game was one of the worst performances I have seen from him and he rightly deserves all the criticism he gets for that performance, but he also went years of putting in top level performances. Yes those performances were more attack based than defensive, but he was not a lucky bag defender either for long spells of his career.

Has he lost some speed? He made Dalot look like an Olympic sprinter, and seems to really struggle this season to get up to top speed, as well as his speed being lower than what I would expect

He's only 26, should be coming into his physical peak

Never said hes completely garbage at defending. But he's not top quality either. Its why there was so much talk about giving him a more forward role, which is what happened. And I'll be honest, the more I think about it the more I believe he deliberately played that bad. I cant think of one player who just walked a few paces and let people walk passed him, where every pass was horrid, where they didnt do one tackle all game. Thats prime match fixing behaviour. Only reason I dont think it was max fixing for sure is because of how disgustingly blatant he was at being bad. They normally try to hide it. He was tits out the whole way.

I can see how it would look that way, but, and this is just an opinion same as your take is, it looked more like he simply could not be arsed on the day rather than it being something more nefarious.

For me it was my "he is 100% gone" moment. From here on in it might be a mix of games where he gives 100% so he can give another braindead "chat chat chat" gesture to the crowd after a goal and games where he is having a day where he is not as bothered and that tiny drop in interest being huge at this level of sport.

Think we may also see a bit of him loking after himself to protect a move away until a pre contract is signed.

TBH at this stage I would be happier if he just came out and said what he wanted and be done with it. Just get it out there and get the weight off the shoulders.

Salah and VVD are in the same boat as him but they are being complete pros on the pitch and their will to win does not look even a tad diminished. VVD in particular you would never guess was so close to being able to leave on a free the way he is playing.

Neville eluded to it, it must be a record for a defender to get ran past about 46 times and still keep a clean sheet.
