Football finance expert Kieran Maguire
The financial benefits of getting into the further stages of the Club World Cup outweigh the short-term cost of paying 10m euros for Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid also want to integrate him as quickly as they can in terms of pre-season training and so on.
Liverpool are in a very strong position in regards to the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
And they have played a canny game, because Real Madrid didn't expect to have to pay this much but Liverpool have waited and waited and Real folded in the end.I make no apologies, this is me

I hope he goes on to prove how good he is at Real and wins a load of trophies. I just hope we stop him getting the champions league next season. His range of passing in his last appearance shows what we will be missing.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Agree but I must admit I’d laugh my head off if, after them paying us £10m to release him early to play in the Club Championship thingy, if he was to pick up an injury & miss the start of the seasonOriginally posted by Deano View PostI really don't give a **** about him anymore, Don't hate him, just doesn't play for my club anymore, tons have gone before him, tons will go after him - Just don't give a ****.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Of course we didn’t win but at least we got something when nothing looked most likelyOriginally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostWe didn't win on this at all, but I guess that might be down to the previous backroom team. We did well to get some money out of Madrid, but I'd rather see them burn. I really hope that club goes bankrupt.

Depends how you look at it. If you consider Frimpong Trent's replacement, then £10m off £30m transfer fee plus huge savings on wages means that over the course of the contract then we probably save money overall. I'm sure a lot of fans would have snapped your hands off for that in recent seasons, going by comments and reactions to his performance.Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostWe didn't win on this at all, but I guess that might be down to the previous backroom team. I'm not one of those people, I think he's a colossal loss, however I'm a huge fan of Bradley and think the package of Bradley at RB, with Frimpong as backup and also able to cover a variety of other positions, as well as bringing pace to the side, could be more beneficial than having Trent RB, with Bradley covering him. Essentially, our starting 11 will be weaker without Trent, but if Frimpong hits the ground running, our squad overall might be stronger. There will also be specific games that the attributes Bradley or Frimpong bring would make them at better starting option at RB than Trent.
Lot of ifs and buts, however Trent situation was clearly out of our hands and the current backroom staff have played a blinder IMO.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think creativity will build from midfield and attack."We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies."

Aye, apart from the fact we are signing some excellent players that should easily fill the creativity void, I also wonder if other players will step up in Trent's absence, like we used to see when Gerrard was out and other players started taking more responsibility.Originally posted by DerKrampus View PostI think creativity will build from midfield and attack.
There used to be silly arguments about whether we were better as a Team without Gerrard, but it easily could be the case without Trent, despite his irreplaceable talent. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I was gutted to lose Coutinho but there's no doubt we became a much better team when he left, probably actually because he left (reused that money).
We've no money to reuse this time and Trent was/is one of a kind. He'll be a loss IMO but some of this business is very exciting so I'm not too worried. It's sure to be a very different team next year, one way or another.

What could the previous backroom team done differently?Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostWe didn't win on this at all, but I guess that might be down to the previous backroom team.
