Say what you like, the majority of his decision making comes from pure greed, greed from Trent and his advisors, aka his brother and agent who stands to make a fortune. The quicker this blows over and we all move on the better, the club doesn’t owe him anything.

No surprise here, we all knew it was coming, sad to see it happen, a little disappointed that he's an LFC fan not wanting to stay, but it's his career he only gets on go at it. To be honest I don't like Madrid as a club but good luck to him in Spain and I hope we knock them out of Europe when we come up against them.

Part of me thinks good luck to him, but part of me remembers his lap of honour at the end of last season and makes me think he's known all along where he's going, and he's screwed the club over leaving on a free. I don't like all that shushing nonsense in hindsight either.

Still, we have a ready-made replacement in Bradley, and he should start the remaining games this season now.

Not sure now is the best time to move to Real either. They were poor in the Champions League, and watching Lamine Yamal the other night Barca could be about to enter a new great era in the refurbished Nou Camp if they sign a defender or two to play behind him.

If Trent had said earlier in the season that he wanted to leave, fans would've ripped him to pieces and blamed him for potentially derailing our season. And we shouldn't act like Madrid would've definitely paid the kind of fee we'd find acceptable.

No problem with the announcement tbh or the timing of it. Him maneuvering his way out to pocket a big signing on fee is my grievance with the move.

He’s spent the first half of his career here, won the lot and now wants to try something else (and make a massive bag, sure).

I don’t really agree with the notion that a local lad should be obligated to stay at his club for his whole career, or until the club decide they don’t want him anymore.

No fee is frustrating, but he didn’t cost us one either and I don’t think that’s really a player’s responsibility. Especially at a financially stable club.

An outstanding and important player for us who won everything. I’ll be more than happy if our next player through the academy repeats a similar cycle to him.

I get how he’s tainted his legacy for others. He’s a Liverpool legend for me.

Not sure why it should be a cowards way out? But a player leaving his club on a free, in his prime, is very rare. A home grown player doing so, is even rarer. It's a big financial hit for the club and it's a setback and most players look out for their clubs too, look at MacAllister for example.

I feel the club doesn't owe him anything, the players are part of the club, not the other way around. He got opportunities and trust at Liverpool and played his part.

Fine to disagree, I can respect the other view, but if every player acted like this we'd end up with a very difficult transfer environment IMO.

Just playing devils advocate here, what exactly makes this "the coward’s way out"?

Did we really expect Trent to announce his decision to leave earlier in the season, even though most of us could sense he was leaning that way? Is there ever truly a "right" way to leave a club?

Some say he should've made Madrid pay a transfer fee, but what if Madrid were only ever going to take him on a free? And before anyone suggests he should've signed a new deal with a release clause, let's be honest, Liverpool don't do release clauses. That's never been part of our model. : handshake:
