And I know there is a Mark79 retort heading my way. Just want to say that unless it is a Mark3 reply it simply does not count

Think it would be fairer to say he is an average (by PL levels) defender these days than a **** one.

For me, and of course opinions make it subjective, at his peak he was a good defender and a great attacker.

The past two seasons he has, imo, been a good attacker (for a fullback) and an average defender.

Do agree that we could do better in terms of return vs wages. For me if we added say Kerkez and Cherki to our squad, they would most like cost less in combined wages than TAA on his own and would wager that between them they would rack up more goals, assists and chances created over a season than TAA on his own.

We might replace TAA with two players that individually might not reach the same heights in their positions to what TAA has done in his, but what we lose in individual brilliance we might be able to replace through making the team unit stronger overall.

He's a really unique profile, we won't find another right back who does that, even if they do get comparable goals and assists.

He's our playmaker, we're going to need to replace that aspect somewhere else in the team.

His secondary assist numbers are very average to the past two seasons.

His passing WAS elite, now his pass completion numbers are quite average over the course of a season.

Does he have games in which his chance creation and pass completion etc etc are of top tier quality? He very much does, but those games are not a regular thing like they once were.

He is still a very good full back in terms of creation and actual return but he is not elite on a regular basis and certainly not on the level of being elite that the wages he is suggested to want would warrant.

    Imo of course.

He has been a great player for us during his time at Liverpool. Truly great for a number of seasons imo, but he is now at least two seasons in a row of being good rather than great.

And yes we would need to replace what he used to bring to the team on a regular basis, but doing so does not require us finding one brilliant player. We may well be able to bring those numbers and that creation of chances through bringing in a couple players.

If he goes to a club like Real Madrid or does a bit of a holy crap move and goes somewhere like City, it will suck as he is clearly a good player who has shown in the past that he can be a great player, but we will replace his numbers in the team be it through finding another unicorn or most likely through a few players chipping in.

We have been very lucky as a fanbase in that we have seen scores of amazing players that we thought we would never replace, then some time later we get a new amazing player that makes us great in another way. Same thing will happen again and again even if we have to have a few lulls inbetween the highs.

Last season 28 games, 3 goals 4 assists. This season 29 games 3 goals 6 assists. We should be able to find someone at half his price that would be able to do those figures. Especially once we update our front.

Those are good numbers for a full back, but not off the chart good when the quality of team he plays in is looked at.

Just for a bit of context and using only fullbacks (regardless of flank) and also including sub appearances as part of the PL games played total.

Kerkez has 2 goals and 6 assists from 33 games.

Robinson has 0 goals and 10 assists from 32 games.

Ait Nouri has 4 goals and 6 assists from 32 games

Nathan Collins has 2 goals and 6 assists from 33 games.

Lewis Hall has 0 goals and 7 assists from 24 games.

Daniel Munoz has 4 goals and 5 assists from 32 games.

So TAA in a far superior team has a G/A return on par with guys doing well in weaker teams.

Would many of those guys in the so called weaker teams get a better return tham their current return if playing for Liverpool with better players around them?

Maybe, but think their numbers do show, in the case of a few of them, that they potentially have a higher ceiling within a better team than what TAA has been showing for a couple of seasons now.

How much did we pay for Robbo, Arbeloa, Finnan? We can probably pick up a decent RB for next to ****all if we look hard enough. Hopefully Bradley will gow our of his injuries, but I agree we need to treat him as backup until his fitness is proved.

I am baffled by the situation to be honest, he grew up a Liverpool fan and has won one title where he didn't get to celebrate with the fans, his decision seems to have been made for a long time (before the start of this season) the title this season was really unexpected so he would have been happy to have won what he has but never get to celebrate a title with the fans? Admittedly it looks like that isn't going to happen. But he is a player who grew up idolising this club, he's won trophies with the club is part of the leadership group of the club and is part of a side who should be competing for the big prizes, I don't get why you'd want to leave that.

Presumably the an announcement will come after we secure the title but before the last game of the season

We need to replace Trent with someone who can be our 1st choice right back, not a squad player.

His injury record is a real worry alright.

He was unavailable (in all comps) for 17 games this season and 31 games last season.

In terms of days injured he was out for 224 days (four separate injuries, two each season) between this season and last.

We need to keep starting Bradley to find out is he who Slot sees as the first choice fullback next season and we buy a cheap back up or are we going to spend big on a fullback and let Bradley battle it out. IMO it will be a really busy summer so knowing is Bradley the first choice and spending funds elsewhere is a big deal to a club like LFC who don't have unlimited funds to spend.
