It’s not at all disingenuous. Claiming he’s being scapegoated because of references to a memorably bad shot is disingenuous. On its own, without any context, it was a noteworthy effort. If it was from a training clip he’d be getting mocked for it because it was comically bad, not because it was a wasted chance of an equaliser. It will appear in ‘football fails’ compilations on YouTube, stripped of context, for the same reason. You’d have to be pretty humourless not to see the funny side.

I’m just confused why the response to people mentioning how brutally bad that shot was was to frame it as though people held him responsible for us losing the final. That was a weird jump with logic that I can’t follow. Then we have tried to make it clear that it was the shot we were criticising, then the response is ‘why are you talking so much about the shot?’

That’s just a disingenuous response.

Repeatedly going on about it is trying to build it up as far more decisive or costly moment that it actually was. It’s scapegoating.
