I thought that Kieta, Salah, Mane & Matip most of us were happy with. Maybe the fees were questioned but I thought everyone was fairly happy with the players themselves?

Salah had a few people saying that he wasn't good enough for Chelsea, Italian league suited him etc.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The Oxlade-Chamberlain situation influenced perceptions of Arsenal’s health – but rightly so. He is a young player Wenger loved, both as footballer and character. Someone Wenger nurtured and backed through injuries. But someone who grew into an intelligent young man, with ambition and a strong sense of his own career development, who came to feel he just had to get out.

And here’s his story. Allowed to get to the final 18 months of his contract – as so often somehow happens with Arsenal players – Oxlade-Chamberlain was made aware Liverpool wanted him early this year. He was on £57,000 per week and Arsenal offered a wage rise – to £80,000 per week. He told them thanks, but whatever decision he came to, it wouldn’t be about the money.

Arsenal offered more. His stance was the same. They came back with more again and he didn’t change. Eventually, two weeks ago, an incredible contract, worth close to £180,000 per week was put in front of him. He couldn’t believe the largesse but hadn’t they been listening: it’s not the money.

Only after a heart-to-heart with Wenger did the message finally get through and, at last, on Monday (after Oxlade-Chamberlain performed like a man with his mind elsewhere in a 4-0 defeat at Anfield) he abandoned the summer-long stance that the player was “100 per cent” not for sale.

Liverpool at last were able to open negotiations, which concluded quickly, with a £35m fee agreed and Oxlade-Chamberlain accepting £120,000 week. Over the term of his contract, Oxlade-Chamberlain will earn £15m less than he could have by staying at Arsenal and yet is “super buzzing” according to an associate. He has gone for Jurgen Klopp and to be at an upward club that offer the best chance – he feels - of fulfilling his potential. Once upon a time, players would choose Wenger and Arsenal for those reasons.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

TBH, I only read the first few comments on each, so knock yourself out. I also didn't say everybody was against the signings, but that there was scepticism.

Re. Matip: I think you wanted him playing DM as he didn't seem cut out for CB.

Even reading the above posts in this thread I can't figure out the point under debate here?

Is it that the Ox was a panic buy? We've been linked to him for ages.

Kev said Ox was a panic buy. He wasn't.

Dan said that the fan base were delighted when we signed Mane and Salah (amongst others). I said they weren't.

Yep, agree, clearly not a panic buy.

I think particularly Mane showcased Klopps genius at being better at spotting a player than the rest of us, I dont recall anyone being particularly 'whelmed'. Mane signed and has been sensational since debut.

So when Salah's signing was mooted, I was pretty much prepared to trust Kloppo, and it looks like he has found another bargain

Which was the point I made about Ox. Obviously every player Klopp signs won't be a resounding success, but on the evidence so far, if he spends big he gets it right, so I don't know why people wouldn't give him benefit of the doubt.

Personally, if Klopp spent £40m on Vornin this summer, I’d be rushing out to check the odds on him picking up ballon d’or this season.

I have never seen a credible link until this window, and I said it wiffs of panic buy.

By that definition, all the summer purchases were panic buys, as would have Lemar been too.
                            Oh I don't know.

Which is fair enough, but who were the 'first teamers' you were referring to?

We signed Salah, secured a deal for Keita and only other credible link I can remember is Lemar. If anything Lemar screamed panic buy, back-up if we lost Coutinho at the last minute.

I think he was Kev! I am sure he was mentioned very early on and then it all went quiet until the last few days !
Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but does not actually get you anywhere.
