He is Irish, and Sheeny means something very different in Ireland so I have no doubt he meant it as another Irish person would understand rather than as the ethnic slur it is to others.

Cool, cool, cool. As I said, I'm sure you didn't mean it in that way and I wasn't aware of the Irish heritage of the term, so you learn something new every day. I was more concerned that you might say it conversation somewhere and find yourself in an uncomfortable situation without the intention!

appreciate that mate, I actually had to google it to find what it meant outside of Ireland which obviously is not good.

Although I think now a number of people will be googling the term and seeing the anti-Semitic meaning the term can have when used in another context.

Isn't it nice when people talk to each other like adults? I've learned something, Dan has learned something. Nobody got offended, which is good because there was no harmful intent from anyone.
