At least Bobby is back and we have the option of playing Jota AM. Drew 1-1 at Etihad last year using that system.

Ughhh he's such a crock, just cannot get going. So frustrating and we just cannot rely on him to stay fit... much like Keita.

Frustrating yes but we have Fab, Milner, Henderson, Jones, Keita, Ox and at a push Jota all fit and available for midfield so not the end of the world.
Thiago though, brilliant player but too unreliable to ever be a regular starter here it's looking like.

We do have the numbers to be fair at present. I was thinking more the quality in depth than quantity.

Then again if we go into the Man City game and have both Henderson and Fabinho fully fit, then I am happy with whichever other option is available for that third spot

Milner v City for me....... although there is a small matter of Porto away before we even look at City.

I wonder after the City game will Jurgen look at the possibility of just playing Henderson and Fab in some games - with all 4 of Salah, Mane, Bobby and Jota in attack.

Having said all of that, it is time for Jones to step up too. Or Oxlade. If neither of them can step up to the plate when Thaigo, Elliot and Keita are out, then we may as well cut them both loose.

He did that against city last year- hendo and gini I think in midfield, with the fab 4 up front. Definitely an option, but I wouldn’t do it regularly. You can’t rotate them if they’re all starting.

In defence of Jones, he is only 20 and in the very early stages of his senior career. If he can indeed step up to another level again to what he has shown to date, then fantastic, but if he is a bit patchy as the majority of players his age are, then he still has loads of time to become more consistent.

Bit harsh maybe ? As Jaco said he's only 20 and still learning while only getting first team chances when others are injured.

Not replacing Gini's looking about as good a decision as not replacing Lovren at this stage.

Hendo's due an injury too, he's just as fragile as Thiago and Keita.

I think Thiago is Wijnaldum's replacement or at least was meant to be. However given how injury prone a lot of our midfielders were even before we got Thiago I think we needed a Gini replacement and another CM on top of that.

Might well be that we needed to move Chamberlain or Keita out in order to bring someone in or we may well be gambling on waiting on one of the midfielders we have been linked with in the past that are now have less than a year left of their contracts like Goretzka or Zakaria and maybe making a move in January for one of them as they will have six months left then.

Tbh I don't include Chamberlain much in my thinking about midfield options. I regard him as being as injury prone as Keita but less effective on the pitch than Keita when fit.

For me Jones is ahead of him in the pecking order as well.

Had not twigged that Fabinho would be missing for two games after the International break. That a quarantine thing or will there be exemptions for players if they test negative I wonder?

Not selling Keita last summer and reinvesting was a bit of **** up but a mistake that at this point in the season isn't a major concern IMO considering we still have plenty of options and Thiago is only out short term but one of those 2 names (Goretzka and Zakaria) coming in in January would make a world of difference.
