Players like him feel like are born to frustrate you. They are so close to being what you want them to be, they show just enough glimpses of brilliance to keep you hopeful, then for the rest of the time you are left disappointed.

I think I am done with him, but I still maintain it would be hard and expensive to replace him. There are very few world class strikers out there and they aren't cheap!

Yes that does not take into account assists, but how many if thise were in the league?

Purely as a striker, he is awful

(edit) he is 2,748th now... out of 2,754.

Dominic Calvert Lewin is 2nd bottom if that is any consolation with -5.5, compared ti Nunez on -3.8

And yet all our guys who are much better than him have smaller G/A tallies than him save for Salah.

So stands to reason that if Nunez is not the guy to go forward with, and that arguement is one that could easily be made, then those attackers that get even less goals and assists should also be looked at.

I mean who cares if Jota has a great conversion rate if he is out for half a season most seasons.

Who cares if Diaz runs a lot in some games if as a winger he gets very few assists and not a lot of goals.

If Nunez is not good enough for us, and maybe he is not good enough to be a starter, then the rest need to be evaluated by the exact same standards.

      That's what I am saying.

If the return we get from Nunez is the bar we are setting to decide what is simply not good enough, then four out of five of our senior attackers are failing alongside him.

My solution is the same as in the other post. Sell the ones we get the biggest offers for to fund buying new starters and let those we do not sell be out back up players.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I've mentioned Cisse comparison before myself. Imo if I could compare him to any player, Cisse would be the one closest to what Nunez is. Fast, athletic, unpredictable but also, scatty, wasteful & not much footballing intelligence.

I love him. Rather, I love the idea of him

Agent of chaos, unpredictable wildman yada yada

But really, much as I've defended him, he's just a bit ****

He's not as bad as gets made out on here, but £70m or whatever it was? Holy ****
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

My mate made that same comparison last night. It is, unfortunately, somewhat valid. Just a shame Nunez didn’t cost £14m.

You look at his stats and his goals to games ratio is consistent across his career around a goal every 2.5-2.7 games the anomaly was the season before we bought him where he got 34 in 41, clearly we bought him thinking that we'd be looking at that type of return.

That Santiago Giménez looks very good for Feyenoord.

23 years old, looks as good a finisher as Jota, has missed 7 days to injury in his entire professional career.

You are comparing actuals with the "chances to" though... not like for like.

If they had the same chances they would be more likely to score... and I appreciate they may not get into those positions.

Problem is we cant support him and Diaz and Salah '24, on top of an injured Jota and Gakpo (who I still rate). If he was one of 5 options, then fine. He has his uses. But right now he seems to have no uses, and his primary one: scoring goals, he is very bad at. We are srill creating more chances that almost any other team, but we have no reliability. It coukd be tiredness, afterall we have been here before. But Nunez has not been playing every game and should be in his prime. Atchis best he is a beast, but how often is that. Trotting it out in Europa games against ****e does not cut it for me.

                            Definitely a better finisher.

Thing is, given we paid £75m for him and he's on £140k per week; what the absolute **** are we to do if the manager decides he's not good enough? Sell for buttons? Keep as a violently overpriced supersub?
