I wouldn't go that far, with PLunkett and Mahmmod we have two decent young pace bowlers and with Broad coming through as a fast medium bowler who is more about line and length I think our options for the futre look solid. Although thesse players need to be coming through and playing regularly now.

Simon Jones' figures for Glamorgan last week didn't look very good, coule be a while before he is back in with a serious chance, I doubt he will play a test match all year.

I take your point mate but as things stand we don't have a single world class pace bowler amongst our ranks.

How many world class players do we have anyway looking at form.

Flintoff has been pathetic with the bat since the 2005 Ashes and Peiterson has not really had a run of form. There is only Cook who has consistently performed, (excluding last winters Ashes, everyone was pathetic there).

We need to be more open minded and accept that the side is going through a process of rebuilding, with new backroom staff players will not be given the time as there should not be any favorites of Moores.

Atherton is part of the Skofield(sp) report coming out and he said people were expecting selectore to choose team, do you think this will mean under performers will be dropped earlier as there will be a panel selecting 11 players instead of a coach and captain?

Flintoff has been a top class bowler even when he hasn't been good with the bat.

But he is supposed to be an all-rounder.

He would get in any side in the world for his bowling alone

                          World class players:

                          Freddy - world class bowler
                          KP - world class
Jones - world class before injury, only time will tell if he gets back to form

                          Exceptional Players:

                          Colly
Hoggard - given the right conditions
                          Monty

But I would argue he is a top bowler, irrelevant of his ability as a batsman. He is our best bowler bar none and one of the best in the world. Just because he has a historical reputation with the bat doesn't mean that he shouldn't be judges on the areas where he is currently performing.

I never said his bowling was poor, he is our best bowler, but if the number 7 spot is being judged on batting ability then number six should be. Atherton said that Flintoff is not good enough to get in the side as a batsmen and with his current injuries his bowling will surely decline short term.

At the end of the day an allrounder requires one thing, a batting average higher than his bowling, look at flintoffs since the 2005 ashes and i doubt that it will measure up.

I'm not saying he is poor but I wouldn't call him world class, if he was coming into the side now he would not be an allrounder.

1145 BST - Eng 39-1:Collymore to Vaughan, and Skip stays cautious. From this distance at least there's no sign of the complicated combo of gaffer tape, string and brown paper keeping his fragile body together. Maiden over, and sunlight is bouncing off every available surface.

1140 BST - Eng 39-1:Hold onto your seats - here comes Michael Vaughan for his first Test match innings since some time in the early 1960s. Remarkably he makes it to the middle without any body part snapping, twisting or popping, and gets off the mark with a jab down to square leg.
