Would be interested to know peoples thoughts.
My top 5 would be:
1: Marvin Hagler - A devestating fighter at his peak who never seemed to have a chink in his armour, the Hearns fight is the stuff of legend. I was disappointed that he quit after the Leonard fight as i always thought the whole thing was a sham and a fighter of Haglers class deserved to go out far more gracefully.
2: Muhammad Ali - Speed and style personified - whenever i watch old Ali fights i still find his hand speed to be simply breathtaking - I watched him box a 3 round exhibition many years ago and even though he was a shadow of his former self when he started to move it made me regret even more that i never got to see him at his peak in the flesh.
3: Roberto Duran - Toughest fighter ive ever seen and i always watched his fights with more anticipation than virtually any other, as you just seemed to know something special was going to happen.
4: Thomas Hearns - I used to love it when Tommy got hit and it hurt him as his legs used to properly go like rubber, but his courage and determination not to go down i found inspiring. Cant remember his opponents name now (Juan Roldan perhaps?) but Tommy destroyed him to win with one of the finest displays of accurate punching ive ever seen.
5: Sugar Ray Leonard - Thought long and hard about this but for natural talent and the boxing purist he is hard to beat, skill in abundance, though i have to say that i lost interest in his career towards the end as i thought there was more than one dubious decision in there. A class act nevertheless who provided me with some of my greatest boxing memories.
