Bull****, the last time I looked Boxing was about punching people and trying to knock people out...Mayweather, whilst incredibly skilled is nowhere near the top 10 great fighters.
Very very good, undoubtedly, great....no chance.

But of course thats my opinion and is meant in no way to be disrespectful to other members who think mayweather isnt a pussy

Boxing is about beating the other man, without being hit. If the idea was simply to have a knock out decision, then there would be no need for a scoring system, and fighters would keep going until one is stopped. If a win come by way of knock out, then that is a spectacular bonus for those watching.

As for Mayweather being a pussy? Well it doesn't say much for all the fighters he beat then. I guess Hatton's win over Castillo is worthless then, seeing as a pussy like Mayweather was able to beat Castillo at his peak twice.

Coralles at his peak? He must have been a bum too as Pussy floyd beat him too.

Manfready, Hernandez, Gatti, Jesus Chavez, Judah, and Oscar? Fecking water carriers the lot of them. Should be horsewhipped for being beaten by Mayweather.

Mayweather does not carry a lot of stopping power, yet continues to get into the ring with fighters who can punch a lot harder than him. Not his fault none of them could stop him.

Out of curiosity, who would you regard as the current number one pound for pounder on the planet? I guessing your answer will be Calzaghe, who is defo in the top three. Actually it is a bit of a surprise that he did not turn up on more top fives in this thread.

I do enjoy it when you pop up in the boxing threads as it is obvious you have a great passion for it and make for some good debate.

Truth be told whilst my heart sometimes takes over I would begrudgingly give that honour to Mayweather. Like I said I do respect his achievements and theres no doubt hes a very gifted boxer, but for me he is lacking.....something. I cant call it heart, or passion, but that certain x factor that would endear him to the public, make him at least seem to care about putting on a show. Hard to explain and of course that takes away nothing from his skill.
Still, I do expect you, and a few others, to be surprised at the hatton fight, should it come off. As previously mentioned I feel that mayweather has been in cruise control for so long that he is not going to be able to raise his game sufficiently for a fired up hatton. Another thing is that Hatton will undoubtedly be the aggessor during the fight and even though he has won boxing defensively in the past, this time he will look very ugly and the judges will have no choice but to go for hatton!
For me floyd will have to stop Hatton to win and on the evidence I have seen (most of it) he will be unable to do so.

And of course Calzaghe is No.2

          Pleasure conversing with you sir

            Chris Eubank

Between the first Benn fight and the second Watson fight he was the best thing in British boxing.

I genuinely don't think I will be surprised at the fight, if the fight comes about. I expect Hatton to start fast, very fast, and to try and smother Mayweather and put him off of his gameplan. I also expect Hatton to be on top for the first three rounds, before Mayweather gets his gameface on, and figures out Ricky's patterns. Then a slow switch in the balance of the fight until Mayweather is starting to spear Hatton with jabs. Mayweather will be up for this fight just as much as Hatton will be, imho.

As for Mayweather missing something, I think natural charisma is something he is lacking in, and I think that he is so self confident that it comes across as an arrogant streak a mile wide, alienating him from public affection.

And if what I expect to happen in the fight doesn't happen, well that means I will have seen Hatton put in the performance of a lifetime, a really special performance, with boxing's reputation getting another much needed boost, just like it did after Mayweather/De La Hoya.

I loved watching Eubank, especially before the Watson fight. He, understandably, was never the same fighter after that night. He often visibly pulled punches when he had an opponent in trouble after that bout. Was delighted that he went out on his shield in the Thompson fights and the Calzaghe bout.

Really, I though it was all about winning the fight

It's like saying a Football side that doesnt play wonderful Flowing Football and scores 5 goals/game can t be considered Great

The Big Punchers that rely on knocking opponents out are more often technically lacking in boxing skills.

For me a Great Boxer is someone that can change his tactics and Style during a fight if need be.

                    Ali was the greatest though.

you have always had boxers and brawlers

tyson was a brawler. he scared me as a kid

mayweather is a pure boxer ... a real technician.
if he doesnt have much power in punches remember hes fighting five or six weights above what he could fight at. at lighter weights he was an awesome puncher.

that being said i wouldnt pay money to see him fight.

i think he has cherry picked fighters who cant hurt him for a large part of his career ... like baldomir and ODLH.
his speed in the ring means everyone is slower than him i know, but as he has moved up the divisions he has avoided all the real big names.
the ODLH fight was is first real challange since castillo ... that was dec 02.
Im only on here for silly season

the rest of the time im too stressed

Was George Foreman a brawler - I love watching brawlers fight real techincal boxers, and the 'Rumble in the jungle' stands out in that respect.

Also, Jaco, has there ever been a fighter with the hand speed/power and movement of Ali? I cannot think of anyone.

the documentary/film in to their fight "When We Were Kings" was absolutely brilliant, a great insight in to the legend that was Ali. Forman looked like a right goon, loads of power not enough speed (he certainly aint on my favourite list!)
                              We come not to play.
