Hatton Mayweather- Official Build Up and Fight

Still gutted after Hatton's loss. I had high hopes for Hatton but he hasn't gone down in my estimation. There was a lot of guts and bravery and passion by Hatton throughout the fight and that probably was his weakness. He was too emotional by the occasion, he has never fought such a massive fight in his career. (He has fought Tszyu and Castillo but not the same level as Mayweather)

This was the time for Hatton to fight Mayweather, there is no doubting that. To people who say he should have fought Witter, are you watching boxing or reading his idiotic comments? Hatton has dominated the domestic scene, he doesn't need to go back and fight the European scene. He needs to carry on and make his name in America by hopefully fighting either Cotto or De La Hoya at his natural weight. (7lbs does make a difference to a boxer.)

Mayweather was simply class. There is no taking that away from him. He knew what to expect from Hatton. Hatton didn't have the ability to up his game after each round, something we seen with Mayweather after the 6th. Had Hatton capitalised on Mayweather's slip in the 1st with more pressure, we might have seen another result. Mayweather is simply the best at this moment and long may his legacy continue.

Have to say, I'm not going to miss hearing that infuriating song.

I appreciate people can identify with him, that he's the man of the people, and has achieved remarkable things and inspite of that he remains extremely humble, but I am a bit baffled how people can whip themselves in such a frenzy supporting an individual who they've probably never even met. I don't really get it.

Kurtangle, I think your knowledge on boxing is outstanding, however reading this post I am a little disappointed you haven't given Mayweather enough credit for his victory. For me Mayweather truly showed why he is technically the best boxer on the planet. He studied Hatton in the earlier rounds and implemented a strategy to deal with Hattons aggressive approach.

I have always rated Mayweather and have followed his career for a few years, however he really started to piss me off the the past few days with his antics. I was glad to see he showed Hatton the respect he deserves afer the fight and in the post fight press conference.

One thing I will say about Mayweather is that he showed that he can fight on the inside and the outside. Alot of people doubted that he could. He was just too skillful in every department. I would like to see him fight Cotto but can't see it happening. If it did happen I still think Mayweather would win.

Well done Hatton you showed a lot of heart and courage and like Mayweather said, you are still a champion in my eyes.

I Never intended not to give Floyd any credit. I think he's a phenomenal boxer, the very best of this generation without a shadow of a doubt, and he deserved his win last night. He's a true world champion and as classy in the ring as they come. He hides behind this persona but in reality he's not that kind of guy he tends to use it to sell the fights. The way he was after the fight showed as much class as he did during it.

To be honest I was impressed with both fighters and had it not been for Joe Cortez being to busy the fight could have been even better. The result would probably still have been the same in the end one way or another but it could have lit up even more.

Hatton was brave and tenacious but he probably stepped up a few gears to early rather than trying to conserve energy for the final few rounds. The first punch from Floyd that sent Ricky into the ring post wasn't as hard as what he'd caught Ricky with earlier but the culmination of quality punches and the fact that Ricky had tired caught up in the end and in fairness it was looking imminent that Floyd would pull off a stoppage.

Mayweather was superb. He did what he always does, he found a way to win and his accuracy was superb. I was worried going into the fight that he would do to Ricky what he did to Gatti but I think Floyd had beaten Gatti before they even stepped in the ring with his intimidation tactics. What we saw, including Floyd, was that Ricky wouldn't let himself be intimidated in the same way. Ricky was there to test himself against the very best and there's no shame in losing in that situation.
