Was too tired to make a real contribution at 6am!

Clearly the better boxer won, but no shame in losing to one of the all time greats. Hatton was very frustrated he could not get his gameplan going, but that is purely down to the genius of Mayweather.

I remember Jaco P posting about Mayweather and his breathing during a fight. I now know what he meant. Awesome control of mind and body.

For me, Mayweather allowed Hatton to wear himself out in the first six rounds, he gave a masterclass in defending his body and head thus nullifying Hatton's barrage of blows and sapping his strength. The holding and spoiling worked on Hattons mind clearly, and Mayweather then changed up, looking in total command as cumulative punches were hitting Ricky very cleanly; several times Hatton's head was snapped back with the shots he was taking. I kept thinking, Ricky move your head a bit more in the fight, but then he'd not really needed to do that before in his career, and he ran into a special boxer who capitalised. Mayweather who'd used some single shots with his right as counter in the early rounds, when not on the ropes, from the seventh on and especially in the eigth was switching from combinations to jabs. Hatton by now was very tired, very second best and that left hook in the tenth floored him when he was mindful of charging forward and not defending. Hatton has a great heart and is a good fighter, but against Mayweather, a brilliant boxer, he looked a bit ordinary, though there's no shame in losing to class.

My take on witter is that he's a show pony and hasnt fought anyone of any real pedigree and Hatton would destroy him if they fought

this is something i dont get with people, how can anyone have a problem with a boxer who is arrogant and has a bit of showmanship about him?

and how can anyone think that the floyd mayweather we see promoting a fight is the same floyd mayweather when not promoting a fight?

i honestly think british boxers could really do without the louts they take with them when they fight in america.

apart from them being lager louts and acting like hooligans,i imagine it must be an added pressure that a boxer could do without.

imo the boxer needs to be fighting for himself, and im sure they are,but when you have 3 or 4 thousand fans chanting your name all the way through the fight as if their at a football match,it has to get through to the fighter.
i could be wrong, but i just feel ricky could have done without the problem of fighting for the fans as well as himself last night.

as for the fight, ricky was just out classed by a much much better fighter.

Hatton was outclassed in boxing ability and that showed, also Mayweather was naturally bigger and that also showed.

Hatton tried hard and against any light welterweight he would have destroyed them, against someone as good as Mayweather though you need something extra, Hatton has never had huge punching power, its always cumalitive or body breaking punches with him and unfortunately against someone as classy as Mayweather it was not enough.

That said I respect Hatton for attempting it, I thought his post fight interviews were very honest and hes a great guy, very funny and life and success will go on for Ricky Hatton.

Mayweather has made me a fan, not because I didnt know how good he was but because he was not arrogant in victory, theres a lot of showmanship with Floyd but to be fair I think thats the image he wants to portray, he actually seems a decent fella.

Great fight, really enjoyed it, glad Rickys ok and he did himself proud. Mayweather will go down as one of the all time greats and theres absolutely no disgrace in losing to him.

Psychologically he had Hatton (Hatton threw too many head shots trying to hurt Mayweather), With the Jab he had Hatton his superior reach advantage helped massively, With the dirty stuff he had Hatton, even played the ref to such an extent Hatton got a point deducted! awesome in defence - was his face even marked? no wonder he's the pretty boy and with his superior power and speed he knocked Hatton out.

The guy is one class boxer, his attitude is what sells his matches, certainly the best right now in any division and one of the greatest of all time.

Hatton is still good, he was fighting at the wrong weight against a guy who is near enough untouchable. He will go down as a UK great.
Great post, but I would say Floyd took away Hatton's angles for him to throw those energy sapping body punches.

Here's an analysis from State side:

Just got up after four hours kip.

I'm not reading the thread and I'm sure there's little to add. Just wanna say unlucky Ricky - it was a gallant effort but ultimately he just fell short on class. Mayweather was outstanding.

I felt immense sadness at the end. It was strangely difficult to see Hatton getting put away like that.
