Can't wait to see how GreenEdge do (Aussie team!)
    Was muß, das muß.

    Comment

Yes, it'll be interesting. A lot of these new superteams tend to recruit from one country in the early days, presumably in a bid to forge (in both senses) a distinctive identity and spirit. But Sky are becoming less British, Katusha are much less Russian than they were, Astana seem to be moving too...

Australia have got a lot of up-and-coming talent though so it could be different I imagine.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I'm also looking at saving some additional pennies and getting a Specialized Roubaix instead.

I'm going to sell my hybrid and buy a second-hand road bike for the winter. Note to self: get on with it!

More incredible riding today from Wiggins and Froome*.

Far more exciting than Jim White's impending aneurysm.

            * And me, but not in the Vuelta.

F*ck, it's incredible what's going on in the Tour of Spain and no-one else cares.

Today's stage could well be critical.

Wiggins is overall leader with one major mountain stage to go. He's supposed to have lost time to the climbers in lots of stages but he keeps on making them lose time to him.

Yesterday morning he led last year's winner by four seconds as they faced a mountaintop finish. He's now 1m 25s ahead of him as he and his teammate, Chris Froome, rode nearly all the other contenders of the wheel.

But today is a big test. The gradient on the final climb reaches 23% in places and that won't suit him at all. So we'll have a clearer idea of whether he can win it at around 5 o'clock this afternoon.

Basically he'll win the Vuelta if he can survive today's test (barring injuries or accident obviously). I guess that most of the major riders - Evans, Contador, the Schleck's etc... have chosen not to participate in the Vuelta right - what with the Tour having just finished? It has always been a bit of a "non-event" in that respect suffered a bit compared to the other tours.

Well, possibly but they both lost time today to the new overall leader, Juan Jose Cobo. They're still in 2nd and 3rd so the team has two cards to play and there are some smaller finishing climbs etc. but it's going to be tough to take back over 20 seconds (Froome) or 46 seconds (Wiggins).

I hope Cobo is clean. No evidence to suggest he isn't but his team were founded out of the ashes of Saunier Duval (3 stage wins in TDF 2008, all due to doping) and he has been incredibly strong. He's also a very unexpected leader but then again so was Froome so that cuts both ways. His team has been good tactically and, even though it's not a WorldTour (i.e. 'premier league') team, there's a fair bit of experience in it (e.g. two riders on the team have won all three Grand Tours between them).

Anyway, rest day tomorrow then battle recommences. But it's going to be an uphill task (pun intended but inappropriate) for Sky.

**** it I'm actually going to save some pennies and go for a Specialized Secteur, Cannondale Synapse or Bianchi Via Nirone. I can still race them at beginner levels and I'll have enough saved for more gear.

Aluminium is making a comeback anyway

I may still change my mind twenty times.

Alloy is good. My son and my brother both love their alloy road bikes. Spend money on wheels though if you can.

                            What a finish from Froome.

Not enough but brilliant anyway. Cobo suffered.
